Absolutely not

I visited in JUNE 2004. I thought that this was an old hotel which has not been maintained and has been neglected by a consortium management.

The staff on reception are very surly and unfriendly. In a way, through no fault of their own. My impression was that morale was very low. There were too few staff on duty to cater for the incoming guests and attend to the out-going ones. It is part of an older shopping mall and you have to go up to the lobby on the first floor by elevator or lift.

The rooms are small and poorly appointed, IF you can actually get into your room. The locks are old, so some of the keys do not 'fit' the lock, and you have to jiggle the key around before you eventually have to admit defeat. I had to change my room 3 times before I got one which I could get into with no problem. That meant having to pick up luggage repeatedly, with no help from the Bell-boys. Contacting them proved impossible. I had another problem with the poor standard and cleanliness of the rooms themselves, although the beds were adequate.

It is a busy hotel, because it is on a package holiday agent's list. But at breakfast buffet time all hell lets loose. The coffee shop girls tried their best to control the guests coming into the small restaurant. "Wait here to be seated" was a joke, as guests ignored the sign and the girl's efforts. Feeding time of the monkeys at Singapore Zoo was far more civilised. I sympathised with the coffee shop staff on this one, but it was a reflection on the poor management of the place. It cried out for a proper supervisor.

A place to avoid. There are far better deals in classy Singapore at 4 star level.
