Gran Ventana Beach Resort: exellent would definately go back and take the family by Lisa And Gerry Kiernan |
| Posted 28 September 2008 about a visit in September 2008 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
This was a beautiful hotel, the staff were excellent, the food was amazing, our rooms were cleaned everyday with clean bedding and towels. The hotel was spotless. The staff could not do enough for you, nothing was too much. They were always smiling and helpful. The beach was amazing with some rocks to snorkle in with lots of different coloured marine fish and was cleaned manually everyday of any seaweed etc. The pool was excellent, the staff organised waterpolo, pool, table tennis, water aerobics, baseball everyday.
I could not fault it one bit, and I have been to quite a few places including America and if I hadn't already booked for next year I would be going back and I don't usually like to do the same place twice but we booked just before we went with our 2 older sons and girlfriends and our 2 15 year olds.
Me and my husband went with two friends as it was his birthday and their wedding anniversary so when we go again it will be with our family. My boys are a bit funny about food but I know I would not have a problem as there was such a variety to eat. The young lads that entertain are such a great bunch they were so funny one kept calling my husband Ricky Martin he was so funny and they were great with everyone of all ages.
What great people the Dominicans are I would recommend it to anyone I definately hope to go back and it will be to that hotel. We only did 2 trips which we booked in the plaza which was the deep sea fishing but did not catch anything and the catamaran but the sea was rough that day but heard good reports from other people who went on a calm day they had booked with a guy on the beach as he was always there they even saw dolphins and had lobster for lunch, we actually wished we had booked with the guy on the beach his name was johnny and he wore a teeshirt with the people he was working for. This hotel was well worth the money.

Gran Ventana Beach Resort: A Holiday we had to take. Rue Merenge was closed by Michele Jones |
| Posted 02 August 2005 about a visit in March 2005 | Overall rating: 8.5 |
The Fateful day came, three days before we were due to fly to the Dominican Republic and the Riu Meringue.
I had saved for a whole year, this was to be my holiday of a life time.
Due to stomach problems at the Meringue, all British guests were advised not to go.
We were offered the grand Ventana Beach Resort.
I was very suspicious, what if they were trying to palm me off on a cheaper more down market holiday, than the one I had bought and paid for?
Thankfully, we excepted the offer, but went with dread.
Upon our arrival, it was dark,
Oh my gosh I thought, where on earth have they sent us?
Bus loads of us seamed to arrive at the Ventana at the same time.
At reception we were told to go to our room and the bell boy would bring our luggage to us.
We changed one of our travellers cheques to tip the bell boy, but he never came!!
(I know now we were looking for faults.)
We went looking for our luggage. Alas it had gone. It was out side our room.
(we never did tip the bell boy)
It was very late the entertainment was ending, the food was scarce and we were very tired.
Baring in mind we were still dubious about not being allowed to go to our holiday of a life time.
We managed to put an odd assortment of food on our plate, and trundle back to our room very deflated, having been told by a lady who had been in the Dom Rep for nearly a week, that it was the first time she had been outside as it had poured ever since she arrived.
Our room appeared dark and dreary, with no out look,
Our clothes were pushed away and I was nearly heart broken.
I went to sleep with a saddened heart.
I woke the following morning to a very dark room, trundled across to the curtains pulled them back with a force.
WOW!!!!
Brilliant sunshine, beautiful grass, flowers. It went on.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I looked at my husband,
(if I am dead, he must have died with me)
Come on Phillip, we have to go we need to explore.
I barely let him dress.
The sight that befell me, was what appeared to be hundreds of maids and men washing the floors all around the pool, every where was being washed, scrubbed and squeegee dried.
Every person smiling, waving and shouting Hola! As you passed.
What was I thinking the night before? This was heaven on earth,
Breakfast was an exciting exploration of food, you name it they had it. All cooked to perfection.
Our version of health and safety were seen every day checking the temperatures of food, with fresh hot food being replaced regularly.
I would collect a nice warm plate and collect my freshly fried egg as I waited. The chef will get to know your habits and finds it fun to try to guess what you will eat 1 or 2 eggs, fried or scrambled?
Fresh ingredients are waiting for omelettes. Ham, mushroom, cheese, bacon, etc.
Fair warning the Bacon is very crispy, I personally loved it.
You must try the banana mash, sounds revolting, but beautiful .
We couldn’t wait to tear ourselves away , and tear we had to, so that we could go and explore.
We were on a beachfront location, not able to be seen, from the restaurant, and couldn’t wait to find the sea. We came upon it almost immediately through beautiful well kept grounds, that led to the beach bar/ restaurant, that also doubles as an al a cart by night.
I cant explain the beauty, I wish you could feel my excitement as I’m trying to explain the picturesqueness.
Straw umbrellas lined the beach, along with Palms.
Loungers neatly placed in rows, grateful in most respects of the welcome shade of the Palms.
Fore warned. If you like plenty of shade you have to place your towels under the umbrellas at no later than 6 o’clock, I went down to the beach every morning to get one at 7 and never got one the whole fortnight I was there.
Just out side of the restaurant stood the grand Ventana pool.
What a pool, immaculately clean, with a full daily activities programme going on in and around it.
I was very impressed with the pool bar, and promised myself a Pina colada sat in the pool by the bar,
BUT, it was far to hot for Phillip and myself, around the pool and loved every day on the beach.
The entertainments team is second to none, the staff of the grand Ventana, in my opinion, are some of the best dancers I have seen, and all the staff well deserve their wages and should be paid more.
My only complaint is the staff of the Grand Ventana , do to much for you.
If they could wipe your mouth for you after meals they would.
I emailed the Grand Ventana, after discovering, I had to go to their hotel, and after reviewing some reviews requested a low quiet floor away from the pool area, which I read could be noisy,
I even received a reply, thanking me for my email, and was told they would do every thing in their power o make sure that Phillip and I were happy.
They did, and we were.
I am sorry that I didn’t get the chance to visit the riu Meringue, as I had such high expectations for this chosen holiday,
But the GRAND VENTANA AND ITS STAFF exceeded my expectations and I am honoured to have fore filled my dreams at the Grand Ventana.
If any one of the staff at the hotel reads this THANK YOU, YOU ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE.
THANK YOU FOR READING.
