Holiday Inn Reading South: Comfortable & Relaxing by Nick Bailey |
| Posted 12 April 2007 about a visit in March 2007 | Overall rating: 7.6 |
The room was large and clean, very comfortable. The presence of a traditional Irish style pub on site is a relaxing way to spend the evening and the large screen football certainly made my night. The hotel also had a bar for those not interested in screen sports with was well laid out and inviting. The location is a 5 minute drive to the centre of the town and the hotel was well signposted from the main road.

Holiday Inn Reading South: Bargain price £55, reasonable hotel by Nigel Clements |
| Posted 29 January 2007 about a visit in January 2007 | Overall rating: 5.4 |
Location: About 1 mile from the M4 junction 11, about 3 miles from the centre of town.
Nothing really near the hotel, cross the road is a supermarket (Lidl) and a chip shop. Bus stop outside from which one can catch the 4 or 6 into town, runs every 10 minutes during peak hours, Last bus is about 23:00
Free car park spread around the hotel.
Lobby is clean and spacious, free newspapers to read. ATM in one corner, charges £1.75 per transaction. Wifi is available at terminals, there is a charge for this.
Room Amenities:
Fridge
Trouser press
TV with 10 channels and paid movies (£10.00)
Coffee\Tea
Wifi access, charged.
Nice sized room with comfy bed (choice of pillows from reception) and pull out sofa bed.
Slighty worn in places with stained sofa bed but no problem.
Restaurant on-site. 'Traders' restaurant and also a Callaghans bar attached to the hotel, shows Sports and has Guiness etc as it is an 'Irish' bar.
Breakfast is an expensive £14.00. Plenty of choice with the classic English fry up to more healthy options of fruit and yoghurt. Dinner menu was reasonable. though did not eat here at the restaurant
Found a very cheap pub (3 bus stops approx 1/2 mile towards town serving Carvery meals all day Monday-Saturday for £3.50. Yes, that's £3.50. Sunday it's £6.50. Pub is called the World Turned upside Down
Services:
Spirit Health club on site, free to use:
M-F 06:30-2200
Sat\Sun 07:00-21:00
Small gym with 2 Treadmills, weights. Pool 1.2-1.4m deep, OK for shortish laps. Jacuzzi, Sauna, Sunbed -pay.
Not surprisingly aimed at the business traveller but this hotel is also used by families visiting Legoland so the pool may be full of kids.
Overall a reasonable hotel with good access to the M4, can get here by bus\taxi from the main station if necessary, but a car would be better. Not worth the rack rate of £150.00 but a bargain at £54.50 for B&B.
