Rooms
This being our second time at this hotel first time September 2001. We stayed at the E-Block this time where in the past we stayed at “A” block. E Block is down the bottom facing the Tennis Courts. Although we had no view of the pool etc the view from our room was pleasant and peaceful. The rooms are spacious although now dated and a lick of paint needed (been to a lot worse places). The outside areas and grounds are kept clean but the holidaymakers don’t help by not putting the rubbish in bins.

Food/Drink
The food is to a good standard but does repeat itself; this is due to them having a big selection at mealtimes i.e.This is due to usually having 3 different meat available the same night. There is always a cold selection and also various fish and pasta everyday.

Entertainment
This to me was one of the downfalls of this hotel. During the day the reps did a good job of getting people involved but in the night their skills was very limited. There was some outside acts; some acts where tidy while most would be paid off in the club circuits throughout South Wales if they were lucky to get through the doors in the first place.

There was then the internal acts where the reps would entertain us i.e. Decades night, Rock you night & Grease night. They done dance routines and mimed the songs. The first time we came to this Hotel the entertainment was second to none.

Pool Area
In the evenings they stack and chain all the sun lounges up and then supposed to open the chains at 9am (in theory a good idea but they would open the chains anything from 8-15 – 8-45 am causing a free for all) There was not enough lounges to go round although there was plenty of space for a lot more and quite a high percentage of these were broke. The hotel does not supply Sun parasols unless only in the high season.

Staff
The staffs are excellent and they enjoy having a conversation with you although sometimes limited. They cannot do enough for you. The cleaners visit the rooms 6 days a week and again nothing is to much for them.

General
The weather while we were there was poor and only for 4 good days out of 14 days although when we were leaving the sun was out. There was quite a breeze blowing which made it feel quite cold at times. The hotel is situated from the beach by a 20 min work but a courtesy bus is available throughout the day. The location of the hotel is ideal if you like to have a walk down to the beach or town after your evening meal. For more serious walks you are able to walk along the beachfront or up to the mountains behind the hotel which we found very nice.

We rented a car from a company called “rocois” just behind lanzarote hotel. The car had fog lights missing and condition of car not good but we decided to make the most of it. Car broke down in Timafaya Mountain contacting the company was practically impossible, when eventually contacted them it was all in Spanish. The Spanish restaurant staff at Timafaya Mountain contacted them for us (staff could not do enough for us) and the car rental sent a person to see us. Replaced car with a shed for the rest of the day. The company had no suitable car for us next day but no problem with them refunded us our money. We then hired a car from a company called Plus Cars (Again behind Lanzarote bay hotel) excellent service and she phoned their breakdown service and handed the phone to us to confirm that if we had broken down with them the person on the other side could speak English. The local bus service to Arrecife and Porta Carmen was regular and reasonable priced.

Please note when dialling telephone numbers to other lanzarote numbers from your mobile you must dial 0034 before the number.

I have tried to give a fair account of my experience on this Holiday at Lanzarote Bay Hotel and even although I have given some negative comments overall the holiday was very enjoyable and I would still recommend this hotel to people who like an all inclusive environment.
