This hotel was being run as one hotel with the adjoining Creta Mare - all facilities being shared. This hotel is 15mins from Rethymnon.
Would suit - families, mature couples who enjoy a good standard of accommodation and food and do not mind a realtively remote location. Very wheelchair friendly.
Would not suit - young couples /singles /groups looking for nightlife and publife or like to be within a town or resort -or anyone that gets easily annoyed by the presence of other nationalities.
We booked flights separately with XL.com and accommodation with Findmeaccommodation.com (BUT you can of course book on diytravel.co.uk !) and hired a car for less than £110 per week (which was very useful) - DIY much cheaper if you have kids !
Rooms - we had a sea view bugalow. Great having a separate bedroom for at least one of our kids ! Plenty of room. Rooms clean and airy. Good standard of housekeeping all through hotel.
Food - Good standard through out the day. Wine and beer on tap (!) and very drinkable (!! ) Icecream & snacks good standard and kids could help themselves all day.
Grounds - beautiful - very picturesque and well kept. Nearest I have been to the Caribbean in the Med ! Lots of different places to hang out so did not get bored.
Lots of swimming pools - family pool, 'swimming' pool, infinitely pool, kids' splash pool etc.
No expanse of sandy beach though, small private man made coves with limited sand - very safe for bathing and inflatables etc. Easy access to larger public sand/ mainly shale beach to left of hotel.
Entertainment - usual amateur performances but what do you expect !, kids clubs were excellent (several age groups), mini disco and adult disco. Banana boat and speed boat rides at extra cost. Good kids reps. Some facilities were closed being near to the end of the season but this did not materially affect our enjoyment.
Transport - Frequent Noddy train to local fishing village 1.5 miles. Good bus links to major towns as right on main island highway (without this being intrusive).
Friendly helpful staff.
A few tourist shops including Pharmacy nearby.
Highly recommend that if you have kids, that you take a trip on the authentic looking pirate ship that you will see sailing past the hotel - there are 2 ships (big & small one) that leave from Rethymnon old harbour - excellent fun for any budding pirates in your family !!
This hotel is rated 4* but it can't be far off 5* - this is our 2nd Iberostar hotel (stayed at the Kipriotis Panorama at Psaldi ,Kos last year - also excellent) -well done Iberostar another great holiday !
