Iberostar Lanzarote Park: Very Nice Aparthotel but getting dated. by Syd Knee |
| Posted 18 October 2004 about a visit in September 2004 | Overall rating: 8.7 |
This was a last minute deal and we couldn't find much obout it on the net so we held our breath as we entered.
We pulled up to the front of a row of shops, this didn't look promising. A large gap between two shops lead to a very large open courtyard with losts of palms etc set into it. You then see the hotel and it looks great. Two large Morrocon style towers on top look realy nice.
The reception / lounge area is large marble floors and nice modern looking sofas and armchairs. A large staircase leads down from reception to the Bar, Restaraunt and out side.
Iberostar is a German company and does show quality. The reception staff were very friendly and speak very good English, the girl that checked us in even had a sence of houmor.
We had booked a studio and they upgraded us to an aparment (same with another couple that we arrived with). The hotel is a novel design set on four blocks, one of which looks like it was added later. The three main blocks are horseshoe shaped and four floors high.
The centre block is the main area and on the ground floor houses on one side the restaurant and the other side the bar. There are three pools in the centre block the main pool a smaller pool and a paddling pool. There is also a snack bar. The other two blocks have a small pool in each. Didn't look round these blocks so can't tell you any more.
The rooms were good size and tidy, they are getting a bit dated and could do with being refurbished. We had a Lounge / Dinner / Kitchinett, bedroom and bathroom.
The bed room had three wardrobes, two single beds pushed together to make a double. A dressing table and mirror. There are small shelf style bedside tables with lights and socket each side of the bed.
The hall had a further wardrobe which also contained a small safe. The rent for this was very reasonable at about 7 euros for the week plus 5 euro deposit.
The bathroom had a modern looking four peice suite, basin, toilet, foot washing basin ( I think thats what it was for) and bath/shower. The bath was full size but the tiling round this area was tatty and needed regrouting and some tiles needed replacing.
The kitchinet / lounge / dinner comprised of a sink and two hops (combined) one of the hobs didn't work. Fridge and all the usual utensils to cook a basic meal. A Dining table, two large sofas that could be used as beds, three large square coffee tables and a TV.
We didn't try the food in the hotel although everyone we spoke to said it was very high quality but not a good choice for kids or vegies. The bar was nice and spacious and was split into two areas, one area had wicker tables and chairs the other had softer chairs and also contained the stage. The hotel had its own entertainment team, who appeared to be german but all spoke good english. We were above the bar but didn't suffer as the entertainment finishes around 10 to 10:30. The entertainment was a mix between the hotel team and professionals. Not too bad a bit of something for everyone. During the day they do airobics, Archary other stuff that I couldn't work out what they were doing and Bingo.
Althought the hotel is german owned and there were a lot of them around it wasn't hard to find a sun lounger.
Just a few moments walk is a lovley man made cove with a beach. Two loungers and a parasol will set you back 7 euros 50 which isn't too bad. The sea here being sheltered and protected is full of small fish upto about 18 inches long and if you take some bread with you will be swarmed by them.
Although it was October the weather was very hot our thermometer only went upto 45 and in the sun it exceeded this. We had a good week here and would recommend it to anyone. We are considering going back next year.
