| Icmeler Review: Is Icmeler past its sell by date? | | Written by Bert Adams on 17 Feb 2006 about a trip in Sep 2005.
Trip was for a couple on holiday. Bert Adams would probably visit again.
| This year is our eigth holiday in Icmeler and have we ( the wife and I)seen the changes over the years. I believe that Icmeler is starting to price itself out of the cheap holiday resort that it used to be and now it is catering for the noisy brits that have being going to the Costa's for years, even the Germans do not seem to be going there in the numbers as previous.
Most of the bars down by the canal seem to think that by making lots of noise and climbing trees with trays of drinks on their heads they will attract the punters, they also like to set fire to the bar and use aerosol cans to spray flames everywhere(some years ago one of these cans exploded and hurt some of the diners).
Icmeler now has 2 night clubs and the drunks returning to their beds kept us awake most of the time last year up to 4 am in the mornings.
Dalaman airport is the pits and we hope that the improvements are there this year when we go back.
After all I have stated we are going back again this year as we like the Turkish people and we have made lots of friends out there, we know where to go, to eat at the quieter restaurants and how to avoid the noise.
For any first timers going out there do not waste your money on trips that the reps try to sell you, go and see Eric at the Esonkoy travel agents, he is a good honest man. Please be careful when renting a vehicle, some people that we met at our apartments last year hired a jeep for the day and its breaks failed coming down one of the steep hills.Beware of the Turks on the beach that sell grapes as they will very quickly palm high turkish lira notes as smaller ones when you pull out a wad from your pocket.
All first timers must visit the market in Icmeler but only buy goods on the second weeks visit and be very careful on the weight in your suite case on the way out as the airport staff are only too quick to charge you excess baggage.
Any scuba divers please note that there is not much to see below the waves, believe me I have been down to 30mts and not seen a single fish of any size, it seems that the sea as well as the resort is washed out. |
