Ixia shopping

There were a couple of local souvenier shops and mini markets which sold much of what you needed.

We went to the old Rhodes town for most of our souvenier shopping as it is just amazing in that place!

Ixia nightlife

There were a few bars on the main strip of Ixia but later found a little village a little further up which had a better night life!

Ixia restaurants

We ate mainly at our hotel as we were half board but often spotted menus at restaurants that made our mouths water!

Typical Greek cuisine is available everywhere as well as the British breakfasts.

Ixia attractions

Not alot going for it in Ixia but we did walk up to the town by the foot of Mount Filamena, the tall hill with a big cross on it! In fact we got carried away and walked up the hill to the top where there is a monestary and they sell a lovely green herbal liquer which I really enjoyed. We cheated on the way down and got a taxi!

There is also a ruined site up over the hill at the back of Ixia, you can access it from Rhodes town but well worth a visit as not many people know its there. There is a ampitheatre and an old ruin which are set in nice grounds with a small cafe/bar.

The beach is pebbles and shingles so take some beach shoes for swimming, I do remember it having a lovely breeze off the sea though!

Ixia day trips

We went to Rhodes town quite often by local bus which was nearly always packed but frequent! We actually walked a few times to save the uncomfortable journey as it was very hot too!

We did a trip down to Lindos which was well worth it! A lovely little village with a great big fortress! I did think it was a bit cruel the way they used donkeys to carry people up and down the hill for a price!

Ixia History and Culture

The main road of Ixia is a very very busy road and it took us ages to cross to get to the beach in the day time. Definately would not recomment this resort for children!

Getting to Ixia

Ixia is a short distance from Rhodes town. The strip is on a very busy road that leads further down the island.

Getting around Ixia

You can get around by local bus, we did this by catching one bus to Rhodes Town and then getting on another that took us to Lindos.

When to visit Ixia

When we went in August 2000, it was very hot, 42 degrees at times! Maybe a bit later or earlier may be better?
