Jandia Princess: very quiet by Paul Goosey |
| Posted 01 June 2006 about a visit in May 2006 | Overall rating: 5.6 |
We have just come back from the hotel it is a lovely quiet place and offers an all inclusive package, it is an hours coach journey from the airport, that is the direct route without dropping others off at different hotels, there is not much to do if you have children due to its remote location there is daytime and nightime entertainment but I dont think this would be enough for children over 10.
The rooms we spotless the maid attended every day and would change all the linen every day unless you hang the towels up this indicates you are happy with them if they are left on the floor they are changed, some people we were with requested a late room on the day of departure when they booked the holiday because our flight was at 4pm, we didnt do this and had to use a courtesy room which was not a problem for us it was free and you got it for 30 mins, the staff are very polite and friendly. The rooms were good sized but you dont get any extras you would expect from a 4 star. The rooms have air con but this is activated at the discretion of the management ours didnt work untill they decided to turn it on two days before we left persumably when the wind dropped, the resturant is air conditioned too but when its busy in there with a lot of bodies it gets very warm.
There are about 8 swimming pools, none above 4 feet in depth, in the hotel all of which have a number of free sunbeds around them however the beach towels start sunbathing on there own from about 7am so if you have a favorite spot you like the look of set your alarm otherwise take pot luck as we did, sometimes it means carrying a sunbed across the pool so you get two together.
The food was plentiful and on the first two days we thought it was good however the food didnt really change that much, I thought that a theme night a couple of days a week would be good, there was a lot of choice but the same old variations repeated themselves throughout the week, the drink is non stop if you want it to be and if what you ask for is not included then they tell you rather than pour it and then ask for the money, the beer is the good old Estrella Damm which is only served in half pint glasses so if you like a few pints you will be making a lot of trips to the bar. The wine is drinkable and the Cava was the best the red was a bit ropey if drinking it without food, when eating it was average, the Bailey's tasted similar to our version as did the white rum, the best drink by far was honey rum a liquor available in the canaries well worth a try, if you dont like it leave it it hasnt cost you anything. There is no smoking in any part of the hotel which is very good if you are addicted to the ash you have to go outside (well done Spain)
The weather was hot we were there for a week and it was 25 celcius in the evening about 8pm the name of the island means "STRONG WIND" in spanish and the first few days were very windy this does help keep the heat down during the day but makes the strenght of the sun deceptive. When the wind drops the heat goes up considerably.
The island has a lot of German people visiting and a lot live there and own shops etc, the hotel was almost all German with a few British and Italian too, every one seemed pleasant and friendly, there are a lot of facilities geared up for the Germans which included a nudist area to the hotel which had a pool for them and was screened off from view, there was also a sauna which is used mainly by the Germans they go into it naked and sit on a towel there is also a window in there which overlooks the nudist pool area so if you dont want to see naked men and women then stay away from this area if you go in with trunks on they look at you as if your an alien. The sauna is mixed as are the showers and changing rooms.
The beach area is a naturist zone too there are a number os stone circles which stand about 2-3 feet high which are at the furthest point from the sea, a lot of nudists use these for their sun bathing so they are not in full view, the whole island is naturist friendly though, the beach was clean but in strong winds the light sand is blown up and hits your skin which feels like you are being shot blasted and is quite painfull, not many people used the beach on very windy days but stayed around the pool.
On the whole we enjoyed the week it was enough, two weeks would be too much, the only reason I would not go back is because there are other places I would rather go in the world

Jandia Princess: Great holiday by Pamela Fieldsend |

I stayed at this hotel 2 years running. It is excellent - rooms are in groups of buildings and all are kept clean and well presented. Food is really good and always a great choice and hot!. May not always get a view to the sea but there are rooms that look out over the pool.
It is situated just a short stroll (5 mins) from the beach and you can go for walks along the beach i.e. Morro Jable which takes about 30 mins. There is a cafe on the site and another small cafe on the beach itself. Part of the beach is nudist so not somewhere to go if you are prudish. I personally was not at all bothered and there seems to be mixed nationalities. I would definately go back there. Staff always friendly and helpful.
It is quiet here so if you want alot of nightlife then go somewhere else. If you want to relax, read, swim and eat then this is a great place.
