Jumeirah Beach Club: Royal Mirage Palace - incredible holiday! by John Oconnell |
| Posted 19 August 2003 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
My wife and I just got back from 5 nights at the Palace to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
All I can say is that this hotel and the staff made our stay something to remember for the rest of our lives! From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty, the service was first class and nothing was too much trouble. All the restaurants were of a very high standard and the food was superb. I would reccomend Tagine, the Moroccan restaurant - fully authentic with Moroccan staff/chefs. We had our anniversary dinner there, they even provided a cake and musicians by the table! My wife was presented with a bouquet of white roses and we received a leaving present of a beautiful leather picture frame.
The swimming pool at the Palace is fantastic, lots of shade and the towels are provided, they even take you to your chosen spot under large parasols! There's a lovely bar there too.
You can also go for a tour of the adjacent Arabian Court (you must see the rooftop bar if nothing else!) or the top class Residence (ultimate luxury at a price!!). They will transport you in aircon jeeps or golf buggies between the numerous restaurants in the three hotels.
We will definitely go back as it is just an incredible place to stay. Expect to pay London prices for drinks and meals, after all it is a 5* hotel i.e. £4 for a bottle of beer, £15 for a bottle of everyday wine (Jacobs Creek etc), £2 for a litre of water.
Don't be put off though, a taxi to Dubai costs £10 and there's a free courtesy bus from the hotel to Wild Wadi, the shopping malls and the Gold Souk. Theres loads of cheap meals on offer in the city!
We booked with Travelbag, they did the hotel dirt cheap for 5 nights and we flew with Emirates who were very good.
Weather - we were there in mid August 48deg C !!!, cools to 38deg at night, lovely by the pool but too much in the city in the afternoon. Best to go shopping first thing as the humidity at night is hard going in the Souks. Its much more comfortable in Jan/Feb but thats when it gets crowded as its in the high twenties.
