| Kalkan Review: | | Written by Derrick Hargreaves on 21 Sep 2004 about a trip in Aug 2004.
| First time in Kalkan, we had read reports saying not suitable for people with walking difficulties but were surprised how hilly it was.
The place is very pretty with terrific views from restaurant terraces, of which there are many.
Eating out is made interesting by the number of places , and, while they all have similar menus, a bit of selection will turn up some interesting variations.
The surrounding area has a few places to visit, Kas is nearby also Patara Beach, Saklikent Gorge and some ruins whose name I have forgotten.(Xanthos?)
The town is fairly clean and apart from two or three bars is quiet after midnight.
For children there is not much , apart from the hotels pool etc. There is a small shingle beach with the water bouyed off from boats jetskis etc for safety and there are a couple of beach clubs with bathing platforms to swim from.
Obviously there are the usual boat trips from the harbour.
Visitors appear to be mainly British with some Germans, Dutch and some Scandinavians.
We enjoyed Kalkan but are unlikely to go back owing to the hills etc which DO get to be hard work.
Transfers from Dalaman all seem to be via Fethiye where you change to a small bus, taking about 2 1/4 hrs.
Just re-read this and it appears negative--- we did have a good holiday and if you don't mind the hills you will like it here. |
