Kalkan nightlife

Nightlife is based around long leisurely meals and strolling through the maze of cobbled streets with tiny shops selling a wide range of goods from the usual tourist trinkets to upmarket galleries and specialist handicrafts and jewellery shops. The bars and restaurants around the Marina offer a welcome breeze and the opportunity to people watch. There are very few bars/clubs as such so the resort is not for allnight ravers or lager louts. The resort is very safe and as in every turkish place, children are welcome and fussed over.

Kalkan restaurants

It is an up-market resort with over a hundred restaurants that cater for all tastes and pockets. Most offer breathtaking views from roof-top terraces of the bay and surrounding mountains that embrace the town. We have never had a bad meal and tried to vary where we ate but our favourite were the Atlantis at the start of the Kalamar Road. It is owned by Ercan and Ozcan and their menu offers a cosmopolitan twist on traditional Turkish and Mediterrean cuisine. They speak excellent english and are happy to offer advise and help. They do the best steaks and the Chicken Marengo is well worth trying. The Barbaros is a new retaurant on the roof terrace of the Nur Hotel. Bobby and Baris have worked hard to decorate it tastefully and to create a wonderful ambience in such a short time. The views are great as is the food and jazz music. The Korsan Fish Terrace is one of the most respected and longstanding restaurants and it's reputation is well deserved. Well worth a visit.

Kalkan day trips

It is well placed for the many sites of interest for those who like to explore and offers boat trips and water based activities. It is a good base for the Lycian Way.

Kalkan History and Culture

Kalkan is a delightful mix of a traditional Turkish holiday resort with a cosmopolitan feel. The old town meanders down cobbled streets and flower covered buildings to the marina and beach. The locals are friendly and eager to please.

There is a lot of new building on the mountainside surrounding the resort but as this work can only be done out of season, it does not affect holiday makers. We stayed at the Korsan Apartments and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. It is a small select complex of just three buildings, two swimming pools and a poolside cafe/bar, surrounded by beautiful gardens. All the grounds and accomodation are immaculately kept and the staff went out of their way to ensure our holiday was a happy one. It is in an excellent position in a quiet street but within three or four minutes walk of the shops, restaurants and the resorts amenities. The apartments are self catering but the restaurants are so good and reasonably priced we did not use them. The staff provided room service and picnic baskets during the day and waited on us hand and foot. We have already booked to return in September.
