Absolutely not

I have just returned from Marmaris stayed at the Kervansary Hotel with my daughter for 7 days. This was our first trip to Turkey, but we were disappointed with this hotel.

The food is very much the same every day, no variety.

I have stayed at many all inclusive hotels this is the worse for me. The maids came every day and emptied the bins and changed towels thats about all. Did not find the staff very helpful - they had a dont care attitude. As for the entertainment, what entertainment!

The hotel itself is a lovely building - the weather was good for the week we stayed - if the weather had been bad that would have been last straw I would have had to change accommodation - defintely not going back to this hotel again.

Firstly if i read the last review before i went i would have thought aww great, gonna have a brill holiday, however i think it needs updated.

For a start it is rated as a 4 star well to be honest it doesnt even come close, i have stayed in better 2 star accomidation.

On first appearence the Hotel looks lovely (the web site does it major justic, they made it look alot better than it actually is - dont go by the pics on the web site)
The Rooms:
Are large, all with Balconys, dressing table and a huge double wardrobe although there are limited coat hangers infact there were only 5 in ours for 2 people. All have TV which there is only one British Speaking channel which was the BBC news channel, There is a fridge in each room and in the 3 rooms we had none of the fridge's worked infact we filled the sink in the bathroom with cold water and used it to cool our bottles of water. The Air con (ha ha ha) what air con!!!! we had none for the 1st 4 days reported it a number of times, finaly we saw the rep and put in a complaint and only then did they come and fix it!!! when i say fix it i could blow harder than it (it was the same in all 3 rooms.
The Bathrooms are lovely, large and all have a shower and a bath.
The last review said that the maid cleaned the room and changed the bed sheets everyday, i think they were in a different hotel. Yes the maid came in everyday, she folded the sheets and put them back on the bed, sometimes emptyed the bins never cleaned the ashtrays!!! and never once hoovered the floor in the whole 2 weeks we were there (none of the 3 rooms got hoovered). The towerls get cleaned if you leave them in a pile on the floor however a few times our were just folded and put back on the rail even though they were dirty. One regular maid was off this day and we got a different one, my sister went up eary to her room and found the maid eating her crisps and smoking her fags, when she saw my sister she ran out the room, my sister then noticed that the £15 British money she had left on her bed side table that had't been touched in almost a week was gone, she confronted the maid and the maid pulled the money out her pocked and said she thought it was a tip although she had never done our rooms before.

The Pools:
If your not up at 6:30am you dont get a bed!!! there arent enough sunbeds to do everyone in the hotel not even half.
The Pools are nice however with just having one pool outside it isnt enough for everyone in the hotel and you found yourself swimming on top of eachother, the pool is also one depth all over 1.5 so if you aint a good swimmer their isnt a shallow end and its deep. The indoor pool looks nice, its freezing cold and didnt really get used it was all one depth too 1.4. The water slides are about the only thing that went well round the pool area, kept the kids amuzed although people were getting soaked as they are close to the sunbeds! they are switched off between 12 and 2pm every day.
Pool entertainment : Not really that good Mico/Neo that spoke on the mic everyday he did like the sound of his own voice!!! pool game every lunch time, darks, table tennis which no one really joined in!!! water polo in the afternoon although you get hit with the ball more than it goes in the net.
Pool Bar and cafe: drinks there when you want, chips, pizza and burger available at lunch times although if you aint there first their served cold..

Food:
Very samey!! a large selection of rabbit food!! all including tomato's!!!! over the 2 weeks several people ended up in hospital with food poison!!! the eggs were nearly raw, soup all tasted like corn flour, pancakes were ok but raw in the middle, fried eggs were cooked one at a time our side which you had to wait over 10mins for. Toaster there is only one for the whole hotel and you have to put it through about 5 or 6 times to make it even resemble toast.
Lunch: usually chicken, Rice, Soup and ofcourse Salad
Dinner: Meat usually chicken or turkey, fish dish, rice, pasta, which all sound nice but dont have any taste and are served nearly cold. We arent fussy eaters but by the end of 2 weeks it was a bit much.
Waiters: often took the plates away even thought it obviouse you were still eating and it felt sometimes like they really didnt want to be there. It is an international Hotel and we counted 12 different nationalities so they cant cater for everyone but could try.

The Bar:
What Bar, the small wooded counter in the corner? yes that would be the bar, only one bar for the whole hotel. served: beer (one kind), raki, Wine (which was off), Gin, Own Vodka, all soft drinks, coke, sprite, fanta etc a few of the barmen didnt care less were aregent, would throw the drink to you on the bar instead of handing it to you! made you feel like you were in the way! the que for the bar was a joke!!! went away along to the tv room!!
All inclusive is from 10am until 12 midnight and then a sign goes up saying you can then buy your drinks for extra, after midnight, well you could if there were barmen there after midnight!! midnight came and the staff left so there was no chance of getting a drink!!

The mini market was over priced! if you go a 5 min walk down the road every thing is nearly half cheaper.

To keep a room on for a late flight it costs anything between £20 and £40, i think it depend what mood there in at the time!!!

The Emtertainment at Night:
Well to be honest we didnt really go! kids disco at 9:30 which were the same songs every night for them.
Adults entertainment: wasnt all that good out of the 2 weeks maybe 4 good nights.

Police were up at least 6 times in the 2 weeks things getting stolen out rooms, cam-corders, PSP's, watches, money etc
Maids asking guests for 20 lira as a tip!!!

We do have friend in marmaris and did spend some nights with them. People we did speak to that have been going for the last 4 or 5 years all said they would be putting in complaints and that they have saw it going down hill over the last 3 years and that it was sad cause it was a really nice hotel at one point but even they wouldnt be back either.

The holiday is what you make it and we did have a good time, but would never go back to this hotel or all inclusive again in turkey!! self catering is alot better and there are alot of nice places to eat and drink!!! it hasnt put us of turkey and will be back next year to self catering and to apartments that we know and like...

I stayed at the Kervansaray apartments from 20th Aug 2007 for two weeks, with my mum & daughter - so ages ranging from 13 - 57 years.

All inclusive is from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight
Breakfast is from 7 - 10:30
Lunch is from 12:30 to 14:30
Children’s dinner 19:00 to 19:30
Dinner 19:30 to 21:30

Food:-
There is a good selection of food on offer, but if you’re a picky eater, there is no point in staying in this hotel and if your one of those people who complain about the British not being catered for definitely don’t go here.

Breakfast consists of omelettes / fried eggs from the outside BBQ area, boiled eggs, cereals & continental style breakfast items from the inside restaurant. The sausages are ‘hot dog’ style.

There is a wide variety of salad/vegetable items and usually a rice or pasta dish that accompanies the meat/fish items at lunch and dinner. The food is very repetitive and in the most, fairly bland but you won’t go hungry.

There is a BBQ area outside the main restaurant and depending on the 'Theme' of the evening, (I use the term 'Theme' loosely) depends on what food is on offer. It tends to be grilled chicken, mini burgers, onion rings etc..

There are very good selections of breads & desert items.

If your kids aren’t big on fruit and veg then there really isn’t a great deal for them to eat.

Pool Bar:-
All inclusive drinks & Pizza, Burgers & chips till 5 p.m.

Drinks:-
Alcohol - Tuborg Larger, red & white wine, Vodka, Raki & Gin. Any other items have to be paid for and are fairly pricey. A double Baileys cost 15 TYL (around £6) and it's measured! this is the first time I've ever had a drink measured out while i've been abroad.

The glasses were very small, so much so that you would end up getting 4 drinks to save yourself from getting up every two minutes to get another drink.

They don’t provide any fresh fruit juice only cordial types, orange, lemon team, cherry and also have Diet Pepsi, regular Pepsi, fanta Orange & Sprite on draft.
Water is also available during the times of 10 a.m. & midnight, but is really only cold if you get it from the restaurant machine.

As for the Kervansaray its self , well what can I say. In Turkey it’s classed as 4 star, Thomas Cook have it listed as a 3 star. Personally I’d put it as a 2 star (I have stayed in better 2 star accommodation). The view from our window was of a derelict area and the grave yard.

The staff were quiet pleasant, although some seemed to favour the Belgian & French tourists to the British and were a bit moody. But I know where the staff had to sleep. In a ground floor storage area, under the resorts shop( right next to our apartment), and believe me if you had to sleep with 15 other people in a room with no air conditioning and a pitifully thin mattress that you had to carry back to the hotel at 7 a.m. in the morning I don’t think you’d have much to smile about!

I had booked for an apartment, but on the first night had to stay in one of the hotel rooms due to a flight delay, so have the chance to tell you about both.

The hotel rooms are listed as being able to accommodate 2-4 people. 2 people would be comfortable, but 4 would be unbearable. There are only 2 power points in the room so limit the amount of electrical items you take.

The apartments are really large and are over two floors, as you enter the apartment the bathroom is there, then there are two single beds and quiet a large fitted wardrobe, dressing table & two chairs and a table. There was a balcony with a table and two chairs through the patio doors.
Down stairs is a double sofa bed, with a large fitted wardrobe, a table with 2 chairs and the patio doors lead to a small grassed area. There is a washing machine that is easy to use and a dishwasher that there is no need to use, as there are no plates etc in the apartment.

Your rooms are cleaned daily and you are given fresh sheets & towels every day. If you don’t want to take any towels with you at all, you can leave a deposit for a large towel to use around the pool (returned to you when you hand in the towel).

Both the hotel rooms & apartments have air conditioning.

The pool
There is an inside pool that is 1.4 meters deep with a Jacuzzi at the side of it.

The main outdoor pool is 1.5 meters deep. There is also a Jacuzzi and small children’s pool attached. This pool has two large water slides attached to it, they are switched off from 12:30 – 14:30 each day, but it doesn’t seem to bother the kids!

There are loads of sun beds, but depending on when you go and whether the Belgians & French outnumber the British, depends on there availability. I would swear that people were putting there towels down when the pub shut! We were told that the week before we arrived there was an actual physical fight between two couples over the removal of towels from sun beds, and while we were there, there were quiet a lot of people who seemed to have staked a claim over a particular area for the two weeks.

If you are a wheel chair user, this hotel really isn’t suitable. I have mobility problems and use a wheel chair on occasion. The lift in the hotel isn’t big enough to get a wheel chair in it with the foot rests attached to it. There are two sets of toilets in the main hotel, one set is down the stairs, with no lift access and the other has a men’s, women’s, and disabled toilet. But the disabled toilet doesn’t have a wide enough door and there is no room to manoeuvre, there isn’t a sink in the disable toilet so you have to go through to the other toilets anyway and there is no way you would be able to get a wheel chair in those.

This hotel is pleasant enough, but I wouldn't go here again.

As for Marmaris it’s self! It is very commercial, if you dare to stop and look at something in a shop window you get hassled off the traders. Even taking a walk around the marina was impossible. You couldn’t take 5 steps without people bothering you to have a drink or to eat something in their restaurant.

All the shops sell the same goods (all fake). The beach is gravel and not sand. But my biggest annoyance was the amount of tip boxes every where!! In the bars, on the buses, on ships, practically everywhere you look, someone is shoving a Tip Box in your direction. I always tip for good service but it is really over the top.

So in summary, we went, we enjoyed ourselves, we didn't get ill, we didn't starve & you Definitely won't get alcohol poisoning (everthing is really weak, sorry I forgot to mention that earlier!). We met a lot of lovely people and in the most it's the people not the place that makes your holiday a good one. Depending on your expectations, the Kervansaray is a relatively good hotel, but make sure that your expectations are not too high!

This hotel is beautiful the only problem is the food and entertainment the food was disgusting either under cooked burnt on outside and still raw on the inside or unedible we had too eat out every day, the only thing we could eat was the bread and we had to purchase butter as what the hotel offered as butter tasted like lard we complained too our rep and also the hotel customer services manager but it fell on deaf ears,as this was an all inclusive hotel we had to use or spending money too purchase food outside the hotel and the entertainment was pathetic it was the same taped music every night. we will not be visiting this hotel again.
