| Key West Travel Guide: Good Place
| | Written by Ben Jackson on 16 Jun 2004 about a trip in May 2004. Trip was for a couple on holiday. Ben Jackson would probably visit again.
| Key West nightlife | 5.0 | | Got to mention the poor Margaritaville, good Sloppy Joe's and great Captain Tony's. |
Key West attractions | 1.0 | | The 'aquarium' was diabolical. How any company can justify keeping 20 sharks in a shallow pool measuring 24 x 8 feet is beyond me and was quite upsetting. I was amazed when the 'aquarium' guide admitted quietly that the sharks are never released from this prison, spending their entire lives on top of each other waiting for the next feeding. This abomination, and many other 'attractions' in Mallory Square, are run by Historic Tours of America. I am writing a letter of complaint and disgust to this company and encourage all other Key West visitors to avoid their 'aquarium' like the plague. |
Key West History and Culture | | Key West was the best place we visited on our tour of Florida.
The day we arrived (5 June 2004) was the first day of a week long gay festival called Pride Fest and many of the participants were staying in our hotel!! Our hotel, the Atlantic Shores) held a clothing optional policy around the pool and the gay boys and girls were loving it! Went to a gay cabaret that was funny too.
Key West is good because it's more like a Euro resort with everything close to everything else, walkable and cars were not required. Sunset sail was a good trip ($40 per person with free beer and wine) and snorkeling was impressive too - a 5 foot shark swam underneath me about 10 feet away! |
