When you read reviews there is always some good some bad.My family arrived at this hotel Aug this year. The reception area was busy so we had a short wait, no problem with us. The hotel was stunning and the cleanliness was out standing. We had only booked a normal room, which was very basic. Didnt feel the need to upgrade as we didnt plan on spending lots of time in it.The staff were very friendly and took very good care of everyone. Ofcourse there is always someone who gets the upset tummy and yes it had to be me.Was took to the clinic sorted out with medication and within 48hrs back to my normal self. Make sure you have insurance incase anything like this occurs.Did several of the trips, went to Nama bay to book them and saved a large sum of cash, overall i would def gie this hotel top marks for everything and would def return.

4 of us travelled (with 1 baby 13 months old) and had the most fantastic holiday! We upgraded to suites on the all inclusive plus and couldnt have asked for a better time - the staff were amazing, they couldnt have been more helpful and friendly. the hotel was spotless and the staff always seem to be out cleaning everywhere and the food was wonderful (we ate in the Aquarium restaurant) different food every night - grill station, pasta station, cavery station as well as loads of dishes in hot dishes - rice, potatoes, different meats, fish, a salad station etc etc
Highly recommended and we are going back next year!!!

Just came back from staying at the Grand Azure and wanted to say it was absolutely fantastic.
If you need a break in a tropical paradise then this is the place to go. The hotel grounds are stunning, a walk along the jetty to see the fish is priceless and the scenery breathtaking.

Our room was like an apartment! And well maintained, the sheets are changed daily, who ever said men can’t do house work? Men do everything here, the whole fortnight we were their we only saw one woman and she was in the restaurant.
I read lots of reviews about the hotel on different websites before I went - that really made me fear the food and that it would be a real issue - but it wasn’t - we were absolutely fine and with a massive selection of food to eat from Italian, Chinese, Fish, Pizza....etc - we were totally spoilt for choice. Also I saw that the drinks were commented on but whatever you drink you are in for a treat as the bar staff seem to pour it like its water! And the cocktails aren’t bad either.
you didn’t have to fight for sun beds as there are plenty to go round, and the staff were lovely - its such a friendly place that we got to talk to all sorts of people - we would definitely go back.
The entertainment was a bit lacking, though the animation team really worked hard, but didn’t pester you. The staff are poorly paid, so regular tips of a 10 or 20 Egyptian pounds (£1 or £2 English) ensure that you are well looked after, and they are so friendly whether you tip them or not
If you like it HOT Egypt is your kind of place, 40++ every day. Thank goodness for that nice sea breeze.
. In all, this place is exceptional and great value for money well worth a visit.

GO AND ENJOY

Very enjoyable 2 weeks spent at the Grand Azure 19/06/05 to 03/07/05.

First the flight out,we flew with Air Atlanta on a Boing 747 Jumbo jet from Manchester airport, very easy check in, as Air Atlanta has their check-in desks at the train/bus terminal adjacent to the Raddison SAS Hotel,(which is interlinked with walkways to all three terminals), which we also stayed overnight at,so no rush to check in and then a nice slow walk to Terminal 1,just how it should be.

Had heard various reports about this flight, not all good, but we were very pleasently surprised, the aircraft was very comfortable and the staff couldnt have been more helpfull. We were then told by the Rep at the Grande Azure after our arrival that it had gone "technical" before its return flight
So the returning passengers had an overnight stay before getting home!

We arrived at Sharm el Sheikh airport near enough on time, we had previously purchased our visa,s from the Egyptian embassy in London by post, you can download the Visa documents at this web site.So there was no waiting in line to purchase one at the airport.

Sorry wouldnt let me put a web address in, but you can find it using google by puting in "Egyptian consolate london".

We posted the form off with our passports / money in postal orders on the Monday morning and they were back first thing Wednesday morning, very efficient eh!

Well watching your luggage getting put! or should i say thrown onto the conveyor belts will made you laugh or groan, occassionaly they pile them 3 high, then when YOU retrieve your suitcases they will try to grab them and ask for money!!! Amazing. They also have a hany knack of hiding some suitcases till the end so that when you are searching for your case they can magically find it for a reward of course...funny to watch ,not funny if its your cases.

Now as previous reports, the Hotel itself is very nice indeed,so i wont bore you with all those details, our room number 17207 was one of the rooms nearest to the Reception area all of these rooms are classed as junior suites, and are large and spacious, two beds slightly larger than our singles, bit dark on the interior decoration, but nice and comfy inside, large bathroom with two showers one over the bath and one self standing.(You can upgrade on arrival, if you so wish, they were charging $10 per person per day on the day we arrived) the second section of rooms down from here are classed as normal rooms, and then further down family rooms, they will give you a small map of the resort latout when you arrive so you can work out were you are,its a very large complex indeed.

The food we found to be fine and had no complaints apart form the best meals to be had (personal taste) was at the Italian and Chinese restaurants pre-bookable the day before or on the day if room available, most times it was not. Tried all the meals and was not too impressed with the Oriental restaurant this is Egyptian food (again our own personal taste)

This is the first time ive found that tipping the bar staff never really made any difference to the service you recieved apart from the odd one or two who worked their backsides off,so watch and learn is my advice. The beach is not one of the nicest ive been on but plenty of beds to lie on never getting one,the jetty taking you out to the reef is long and always under repair,we found the middle section taken apart for repairs so you had to clamber over bits of wood metal and tools..so be carefull, the tide was normally out when we were there,so water very warm and shallow, nearer to the reef after the jetty you will encounter rocks and they are bloody deadly, seen a lot of people with bandaged arms and legs due to slipping on these,so watch the Kids, you also need the Aqua type shoes or youll get your feet ripped to shreds,we brought our own but you can purchase them on the beach for a reasonable price. So after the rocks it just drops of to a tremendous depth and perfect for snorkling, absolutely amazing youll love it.

we also used the Hotels diving centre to go diving,my wifes first time and she was very worried as she has always had a problem with clearing her ears under pressure, like on the aircraft? but eventuall she managed to get down to about 8 mts and she loved it that much she wants to go on a diving holiday now! So try it, your first dive, with free training in the pool first, then all day on a boat with a 20 min dive, food, drink and snorkling was only 120 euros for us both in total.

Now some bad bits! Most of the folk we met had the same tummy trouble I and my wife had, seems its due to the incredible heat and the water used in the ice, cleaning the fruit and salad etc....I know we are all warned about not drinking the water when you arrive, but how the hell can you not eat the salads as they are served with most foods? Anyway we both had 2 or 3 days of pain as did nearly everybody else we spoke to and it wasnt just in the Grand Azure the other hotels were the same.I was charge 95 euros from the onsite doctor or medic! for consultation!!! and medication, forget it,he wasnt worth the time, just head straight across from the Hotels front entrance to the Chemist they speak perfect English and the tablets are only £11 (120 egyptian pounds) he know what you are coming in for, trust me!

Another point, was the watering of the grass and plants, they use the! how should i put it, recycled water!!! but some of this must get into the pools, watch, smell and you will see what i mean,it was pointed out to them that this must be a health hazard but its always been done this way,so!!!!

Taxis! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! what more can i say than they should all be called Mohammed Shumacher. Its an experience ill tell you, never have i ever driven in the dark with no lights on,just the occassional flash to see who they might be knocking down ,amazing.

Apart from that ,the Egyptian people are very friendly and accommodating and would definitly go back again, but maybe during a cooler time of the year.it was about 46C when we left and getting hotter by the day.Ouch!

A must is the Hard Rock Cafe in Naama Bay excellent food, beer and service cant fault it,and cheap to boot.

Enjoy

I have just returned from the Grand Azure after a one week stay. It was enjoyable on the whole however there were one or two things that could have been better.

I'll start with our flight with Thomas Cook which was good, no delays etc and although cramped its no different to any other flight. We arrived on time and the Sharm el Sheikh airport is still under construction and will complete sometime in 2005. When you arrive you have to queue for a visa at a cost of £15 each. This only took about 20mins and we then went through immigration where a man shouted gestapo style "visa stamp, visa stamp, visa stamp" so for Gods sake have your passport open at the visa page as you walk past him.

We then went to baggage collection where the bags were held back and as each man went up to enquire why the delay as my husband did he was told that the baggage handler had found our bag (which had never been lost) and wanted a tip for being kind enough to find it for us. We were then directed by JMC to our coach after running the gauntlet of fending off the men wanting to help with bags. I suspect the coach driver makes use of one of these men in order not to load the cases himself as we were asked for another tip to lift the cases onto the coach and the driver probably gets a kickback. We had been in the country for 15mins and had parted with £2 sterling. I don't feel the amount is the issue but being robbed is.

We were lucky it is only a 10min journey to the Grand Azure and the reception is impressive (lots of marble). The rooms (ours was 5117) are spacious with either balcony or ground floor terrace. Nice bathroom and a kettle with tea & coffe making facilities although no milk so take some coffee mate. Lots of wardrobe space and drawers etc. 2 single beds and a Z-bed for our daughter which was more than comfortable. Some guests were saying the beds were too firm but we like firm beds and had no problems.

The weather constantly shines and I would not want to go in August as late October was plenty hot enough. The staff are friendly although this hotel is new to English guests and German & Russian is spoken better than English. The German & Russian guests are so forceful, rude & demanding whereas us English are happy to accept the measures we are given. The spirits all taste the same but if you drink enough of them who cares?. The food was not always to our taste. We prefered the beach bar as at lunchtime you could get chips and in the evening it was more relaxed. The Bedouin restaurant was a lovely experience but I did not like the food but the Italian was wonderful. The Italian restaurant is called the Tropicana by day and you can still get the most wonderful pizza's.

3 pools in total. 1 lagoon pool with swim-up bar, 1 relaxing pool with s-up bar and the more noisy animation pool where lots of activity happens like water arobics and belly dancing classes. The kids club was fairly good as our daughter was 10 and left if she didn't like it and came back to us but I'm not sure how I would feel about this easy come and easy go approach if she were younger.

No demands for money or tips in hotel and we didn't do any trips as we went to Orlando at Easter and only wanted to relax for the week but other guests spoke highly of them. Great snorkeling although a 10 min walk to get to the best spot. You will need water shoes as rough under feet.

I believe the hotel sprays in the evening for mosquitos but for some reason on the last 2 nights I was bitten alot and still have the itch & scars.

I would reccommend this hotel although be prepared at the airport to be asked for tips and there is even a woman in the toilet who wants money to give you a few sheets of toilet paper. Take coffee mate for the room and if you like a premium brand of spirit take your own. The rooms did have a fridge and you could get bottles of water but nothing else could be taken back to room fridge.
They work off 4 currency's Euro, Sterling US dollars & Eygyptian pound. Do try the Sheisha pipe at $2 its fruit tobacco and harmless to even non smokers and is pleasant.

The hotel is building a new reception which will overlook the lagoon pool and the current reception will become a 2 storey restaurant.

No probs with sunbeds. There are plenty and they are very comfortable with towels provided on a hand over card basis. You return the towel for your card back and on checkout you will need the card or be charged £5 (rip off if this happens).

I hope I haven't been too negative as we would go again but I prefer to know about the airport etc as then you are prepared.

I have stayed here in Sept 03 and will be returning in June 04. The hotel is lovely, at the time we went they were just introducing English tourists. We enjoyed the holiday so much we are going back to the same hotel!
The hotel is so clean and staff so friendly. If you go say hi to Max and Eslamy in the Lobby bar.

LTI Grand Azur Resort: really worried!
12 Apr 2008 by Julie Barnard
I booked this holiday yesterday at the travel agents advice. Now every review I see has mentioned the poor entertainment and stomach bugs. There will be 6 of us including my son who is always worse than usual when ill due to having a bone marrow transplant in the past. I did mention this to the reps but they made no mention of illness being a problem. I am trying to change my holiday.
