| Lefkas Travel Guide: Heaven!!!
| | Written by Katie on 26 Mar 2006 about a trip in Jun 2005. Trip was for a family on holiday. Katie would definitely visit again.
| Lefkas shopping | 5.0 | | Lefkas Town as a bit of disappointment, but probably ok if like designer shops. A little better than Zante Town for anyone who's been there as well. |
Lefkas nightlife | 7.0 | | There are pelnty of bars and at least one night club - open until almost dawn for those looking for such a thing. You will find that weekends are very busy with the Greeks coming for weekends but this just adds to the atmosphere. |
Lefkas restaurants | 10.0 | We tried quite a few. El Greco's and especially Mastrali's on the marina (please say hello to Christos (papa) and Yanni for us as we might not be able to make it back in 2006.
For those with a sweet tooth, there are 5 or 6 bakeries which on the main street all with there own specialities. Apple pies and coconut macaroons appear to be some local specials. |
Lefkas attractions | 7.0 | | The view of the marina, great for lazy days. There are some terrific private boats so you can see just how the other half live. |
Lefkas day trips | | The boat trips from the marina are cheaper than from either the rep or the ticket offices on the main street and are well worth it. We went on the Nydri Star I to kefalonia and ithaki.
Book boat trips direct with marina and not through the ticket agents or your tour rep - will probably save enough for a nite in one of the local bars |
Lefkas History and Culture | | Arrive back from Nydri last sunday and i think i've just find my idea of heaven. We stayed the Yannis towards the fair side of the resort but over look the marina - wow!
However Lefkas and Nydri is not for everyone, but is a good example of traditional greek like. It also appears to be a weekend retreat for greeks from the mainland. There is very little for children (a small fair and a crazy golf pitch is about it!) Although the restaurants and taverns are fairly cosmopolitan, there are a lot of non-british tourists (swedish, germans and french etc.) which again is not to everyone's tastes.
We had hoped to go again in 2006 - although if it is it will be later in the season, so may make it 2007 instead! |
Getting to Lefkas | 8.0 | | Flight to Preveza on the mainland (usually sunday from the Manchester and Gatwick) or I suppose via Athens daily. Other European countries have packages on different days of the week (I think Saturdays, Wednesday etc...) Then it's about a 1/2 hours drive from Airport over the 25m bridge (Nyrdi is a further 30 mins or so from Lefkas Town) |
Getting around Lefkas | | Local buses are fairly frequent but did not try. |
When to visit Lefkas | | Lefkas is a tourist resort from Mid-May to Early October (The Greeks spend their summer holidays their in late July & August so this may make it busier) Weather can be mixed with cloud from mainland but the sun is nevertheless quite hot and the breeze from the Marina welcome to sunworshippers. |
