Luz y Mar: Very basic by Genene Downing |

We stayed here and even though the holiday was well worth the money, i wouldnt stay here again.
The rooms are VERY basic, beds were made form wood and the pool was too small. No entertainment and no food to try out. Reception was shut alot.
We liked the resort though plenty to do, nice area, inbetween the old town as well. Get a boat to the other island its fantastic.
Are towels were really hard and bedding wasnt changed much. Bathroom needed updating. Had to put money in tv. Area didnt feel safe. We ate out alot as its self catering here.
It is a lovely resort, just have a good check around to stay somewhere else. If you want a basic hol then it is ideal for you here.

Luz y Mar: Luz Y Mar - Great Holiday by Lisa Macfarlane |
| Posted 26 July 2005 about a visit in May 2004 | Overall rating: 7.3 |
I stayed at the Luz Y Mar apartments in June last year with 2 friends. Should have got round to doing a review before now, more than a year later!
I was a little worried about staying at these apartments as some of the reviews from other sites were not very good. However, they were a pleasant surprise! The 1 bedroom apartment was a fair size for 3 of us. The apartment was nothing special but it was clean and comfortable which in my opinion are the most important things. The kitchen consisted of a sink, kettle, microwave, hob and fridge. These facilities suited us fine, whether it was for making cups of tea (my friend drank a lot on hols!), heating up leftover pizza from the night before or making pasta. What else would you really need to make on holiday?!! And the fridge kept our drinks nice and cold which is also v.important!!
I would not hesitate in recommending these apartments. We stayed in the Mar apts which are slightly separate from the main block but this worked out well as the pool was quieter and in fact our room was right next to the pool so it was really handy for getting our loungers in the morning and also nipping to and from the apt for sun lotion etc!
The apts are in a good location, near the shopping centre and if you go the back way (down all the steps) to the beach then it really doesn't take long. They are hard work getting back up though but it works off some of those holiday excesses! There are a couple of shops right next to the apts which was handy for regularly buying bottled water etc.
We had a couple of cockroaches but I don't think this was anything to do with the apts as they were cleaned regularly. The 3 of us being big scaredy cats we just asked one of our friendly neighbours to get rid of them for us which was fine. The one complaint I would really have is that there is no air conditioning which can make the rooms pretty stuffy and warm and, if like us you have a ground floor apt, you can't leave the patio door open at night in case of unwanted intruders. It didn't ruin the holiday though, just something to bear in mind.
Enjoy if you go!!

Luz y Mar: do not visit by Virginia Bailey |

we stayed at the luz y mar last october 2004.and were shocked to say the least when we arrived at the resort if you can call it that.
It was Dirty, very very basic, not enough cutlery for two people never mind four, the cooker was ancient and did not work properly.
The towels were disgusting and had a funny smell about them and had seen better days, the tea towel was more holes than towel, luckily we had taken our own tea towel as well.
there was no umbrellas so you had no shade at all, the pool was dirty and the pool area was dirty too.
The cleaners came round every few days but we could'nt see what they did.
I would never ever stay there again.
