Lykia World: Lazy holiday in Lykia World by Chris Gregory 1 |
| Posted 04 July 2005 about a visit in June 2005 | Overall rating: 9.3 |
General
The holiday was on a full board plus basis, drinks (wine and local beer included at meal times). Lykia world is a self-contained holiday complex with 15 pools and is very focussed on kid's activities. There are aerobics, step, yoga and spear classes every day in a covered area behind the beach canopy. I must point out here that we went to Lykia World for a "chill out" and did not take full advantage of the Turkish bath, Sauna and exercise opportunities available.
Accommodation
We booked a room in the garden area of the site, there is other accommodation available in the residence area in a more hotel style. The garden room was adequate for our requirements with TV, hairdryer and free safety deposit box. The 25L charge deposit is waived if you return the key after use. The room we had looked like the most basic on the site but there was lots of space for clothes and the room was cleaned every day. Your room has to be vacated at 11.00am on the last day but you can use the fitness centre to shower and change (suitcases are watched all day by a member of staff). Don't fall for the rep's suggestion that your last day will be a problem, as you will have nowhere to change. The tour reps are simply trying to sell you a trip to Dalaman on the last day!
Food
The food is buffet style in the restaurant, with everything you could think of on offer. There was sea bass, lamb, pizza (many types), local dishes and all supported by a very good salad bar. The staff are constantly checking the temperature of food waiting. The main restraint is ocean side with many tables offering a fine sea view.
We visited two of the speciality restraints in Lykia world, the Chinese, which is in a great setting, and the Turkish, which is done as a sort of Turkish evening with music, belly dancing and the cooking of Lamb in a kiln. Food at the Turkish was OK but the Chinese was waiter served and brilliant (7 courses) these speciality restaruants are charged extra (4 Euro's per person)
Beach
Sea nice but access to it can be difficult as its quite rocky. The beach is not sand its shingle (this also goes for the so called blue lagoon!) These are not Caribbean beaches, however at Lykia world there are jetties with ladders to access the sea. There is the usual sunbed war on the beach. We always prefer the beach to pool and usually arrived at the shoreline for about 9.00am. Often there would be towels on the best sun beds (were there are less rocks!) and no one around as the potential occupants were having breakfast.
Activities
If you are a "fit family" type you will love it here. There are step aerobics and all manner of exercise classes in the wellness area behind the beach. The Wellness area is a huge covered area that keeps the sun off the victims as the energetic aerobic instructor barks the orders. There are too many activities to mention here check the web site for Lykia world its not far wrong.
Trips
It would be unfair for us to comment on the trips as we didn't do any of them (we chilled out). There are however all manner of trips organised by the Lykia World team. A taxi into Olu Denize costs 10Lira (they have dropped the million tag)
Dislikes
Idiots spear fishing around holidaymakers, likely to be Russian's.
Russian compulsive obsessive sun bed users.
The flight times don’t match the room availability times. The transfer to the resort is a long one (homebound took 2 hours to the airport due to pick ups)
Likes
The Chinese restaurant, the staff at Lykia world
The range of activities on offer all included in the price.
