Magic Monika Holidays: Truly Magic Monica-come on! by John Longworth |
| Posted 23 May 2008 about a visit in April 2008 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
Cala Finestrat? never heard of it until we booked our holiday, but what a choice it turned out to be!! At 11 PM local time we found ourselves face to face with members of the hotel reception staff who were absolutely brilliant, professional, friendly, helpfull, processed us with the very minimum of fuss, all 10 of us were squared away within 20 minutes, & strolling out looking for a night cap, unbelievable!
Our adventure began in earnest the following day, starting with a hearty breakfast in the extremely adequate dining room, not the poshest, but clean & functional, the empire builders were ready! What would today bring?
Taking the open top bus into Benidorm (at no extra cost), we were safely deposited outside one of the other hotel's available to us, where we naturally felt obliged to sample the locally brewed beer, spirits & wines, copious amounts were duly dispatched, and we all agreed that a spot of lunch might just float the boat, so to say! All the staff we encountered during our appraisal trip were friendly, polite & had a decent sense of humour (they needed it), we arrived back at base camp ready for our evening meal so, after a quick trip to our rooms for a freshen-up (by the way the maids had been in & everything was spotless), the food was excellent, & enjoyed by all which duly set us up for an evening socialising in one of the hotel bars. Verdict on day one--magnifico!!
Each day passed in a wonderfull, totally relaxing indictment of just how good the many facets of Magic Monika's totally brilliant set-up come together to ensure a great holiday, anyone who failed to have a truly magic holiday here are obviously people who simply can't be pleased, no matter what!!
The cleanliness of this holiday destination, & the attention to ensuring all guests have a great holiday is a fitting testament to all the staff at Magic Monika.
We will certainly be going back in 2009, & a big thank you to all the staff, especially Joe.

Magic Monika Holidays: Magic Monika is a friendly family hotel. by Andy Jordan |
| Posted 02 December 2007 about a visit in November 2007 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
We recently visited Magic Monika for a 10 day holiday. We booked the hotel via the internet with no problems. We were greeted well and efficiently.
Our room was on the 13th floor and offered lovely views. The room was spacious and very clean with maid service every day.
The food (we were all inclusive) was good and plentiful.
A free bus service gave easy access to the other Magic hotels in the area. We were able to use all their facilitys including restaurant's.
Monika is located five mins from a sandy beach in Cala Finestrat. Benidorm centre is around a half hour walk and just far enough for Cala Finestrat to be ideal for a family holiday.
After reading some negative reviews befor we flew we were hesitant but these proved to be unfounded in our experience.
We will go back.
This was the first time we have booked a holiday from seperate companies. We made sure the availabillity of flights and accomadation lincked in befor booking. Transfer from Alicante was 120Euro and took around 45 mins,a good service provided by Alicante Private Transfers.
Our whole holiday for a family of 4 was under £800.
FANTASTIC!

Magic Monika Holidays: Easter At Magic Monika by Lyndon Lomanovskis |
| Posted 14 May 2005 about a visit in February 2005 | Overall rating: 7.3 |
Location
Magic Monica Holidays is a high rise hotel made up of two buildings right in the centre of Cala Finestrat and even though it is 23 stories high it is still dwarfed by the even taller hotels which are springing up in the area. The beach is a 5 minute walk down a gentle slope with various bars and eateries along the way if you feel the need for refreshments.
Getting There
If you are driving to the hotel it’s pretty easy to find as it is on the main road on the way down to the beach and there is a huge "Monica Holidays" sign stuck on the top of it. There is an underground car park available at 9 euros per day; this car park is very tight so please take care if you have a larger car.
The Room
We had a 1 bedroom air-conditioned apartment which had a very spacious lounge with a 2 seater sofa bed in it and the bedroom was also large with a double bed and loads of storage space. The balcony is huge and very safe. The only thing in our room that wasn’t up to standard was the kitchenette; it was the worst I’ve ever seen. it seemed to be designed to be user unfriendly and to encourage you to go all inclusive, as a matter of fact when we booked in and the receptionist saw that we were self catering he offered us an all inclusive package at a discounted price. To be quite honest it was quite a decent deal and if we were planning to stay around the hotel then I probably would have took it. As for room security, The front door was unlocked via a swipe card which seemed pretty good but we couldn’t lock the balcony doors (not so good) although we didn’t hear of any break-ins or thefts while we were there.
Cleaners
Cleaners came into our room every day without fail, the room was spotless, any towels you wanted changing leave them in the bath, if not hang ‘em back up, couldn’t fault the cleaning.
The pool
This is a very large free form pool with shallow bits for the kids, absolutely freezing while we were there but it was the end of April. We did see a few rolled up towels dumped on sun loungers at breakfast time and not occupied till lunch time (yes, you know who you are you anti-social people) but I suppose you get that where ever you go. The pool was never crowded and there were always plenty of loungers but don’t forget this was April!
Summary
This was a DIY holiday and the whole thing was almost embarrassingly cheap, we had an absolutely fantastic time. It was close enough to Benidorm to go in and have a look with out having to actually be a part of it. We used this hotel as a base as we spent the week exploring Costa Blanca so we didn’t use the amenities much apart from the bar. All in all I would recommend the hotel and have a look at the hotel groups web site www.magicmonikaholidays.com before you go as they do have quite a lot to offer. You will find more reviews if you look under Benidorm as some people think its located there.

Magic Monika Holidays: Magic Monika by Beverley Smith |

The title says it all. There were 6 in our party all of differing ages and we all had a ball. We booked with Airtours quite a good way in advance as I had previously stayed at the Cristal Park (dont go there) and visited the Monika then and insisted we try it for my 40th birthday.
The food was excellent always something to eat and the waitresses were really good fun and always found time to talk to you.
The pool was fantastic with plenty of sunbeds to go round even at 11am.
Getting drinks during the day was ok but night time Grumpy the barman was slow and made it seem a chore to serve you, but the rest of the staff were great.
I must admit we didnt see a lot of the night time entertainment but believe it was quite good. We participated in the daytime entertainment programme, winning several medals.
The fun time we had was all down to the great staff at the Monika especially Oscar (entertainer) he worked really long hours but never complained.
All in all I would definately recommend the Monika and plan to go again in 3 weeks time.

Magic Monika Holidays: Monika Holidays Aparthotel by Mike-Ellen |
| Posted 06 September 2004 about a visit in June 2003 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
Generally a good hotel. Clean and pleasent. Staff were mainly friendly and helpful. Some bar staff and cleaners were British. Best feature was the pool (accessable only between 9am and 7pm) with Lifeguards and ample sunbeds. Although quite a few people did get ear infections while we were there, my son included.
The entertainment was good for children with lots to keep them busy but not much for teens. The usual daytime/nightime entertainment. Sometimes a little better than average. But not enought to keep us in. Terra Jardin has closed and all the entertainment is back in the respective hotels. Medieval Night is still available free.
The alcohol was very weak and we are not big drinkers. The food was good and always available. Breakfast was the same every day. Snack Bar open when Dining Room closed. Dining room was air conditioned better in some areas than others.
Hotel has crazy golf, sports pitch, squash courts and very large modern gym with showers and sauna.
There are four blocks to the hotel - each with its own lifts. Didn't have much problem getting a lift most of the time.
If you want to go into Benidorm, the No.5 bus will pick you up across the road and take you into the Old Town for 80 cents. There is a market at the back of the hotel on Friday mornings.
Lots of building work going on in the area all around the hotel but is not really noticeable.
The Magic (hotel) bus runs twice in the mornings and twice in the late afternoons, not available in the evenings. More people come into the hotel to use the pool on these buses so make sure you have a sunbed by 10.30am (when the first one arrives).
A new bar opened just before we left which was part of the hotel but opened onto the street. I believe your AI card will only get you a discount in there. We never saw anyone in there, however.
Hotel Venicia is closed down and doesn't look like opening in the near future.
Happy to answer any questions posted here.

Magic Monika Holidays: Monika heaven by Paul Johnson 5 |

The first time we stayed at the Monika it was a late booking with accomodation on arrival and we thought it was brilliant. We were self-catering as the hotel was not part of the Amigo group then - that was January 1999.
In Jan 2000 we stayed at another hotel in the Amigo group and found that the Monika was part of the group so in Jan 2002 and 2003 we stayed at the Monika and we are going back again in Jan 2004.
The all inclusive package is great and any drink is available not just beer! The food is good and there is plenty of it with a lot of choice. It is well presented and the staff in the restaurant are all cheerful and helpful. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean. There is some building work going on with the big leisure complex being built next door. This should be finished soon. As we were on the 22nd floor it was interesting to watch the men at work and the noise was not intrusive at all. We have met people who go back to this hotel year after year so it can't be that bad and I wonder if the writer of the other review Monika disaster area has actually stayed in the hotel at all. I never saw any prostitutes on the street corner or anywhere near and we certainly didn't spend all our time in the hotel! Cala Finestrat is a lovely little bay with everything that you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday, with Benidorm just around the corner if you want to live it up at the discos and bars.
All in all the Monika is a very good hotel and excellent value for money and we are looking forward to going back again next year!
