| Malaga Review: Tryp Guadalmar Hotel, Malaga | | Written by Sonia Martin on 10 Jun 2005 about a trip in Apr 2005.
| My husband and I recently visited this hotel in Malaga for 5 nights. We booked it directly with the hotel on their site and saved 120 euro instead of going through the usual booking type agents.
The hotel is approx 10 minutes at the most in a taxi from the airport. It is in the village of Guadalmar which is very small and residential. The hotel is mainly a business hotel but is right on the beach with the usual pool and beach facilities available. The staff do not have great english, they are assuming that you are spanish and speak to all the guests in spanish without exception. The only exception were some of the reception staff who did have basic english.
Even though we had requested our room to be available from 2pm for check in, we had to wait until 3.30 to get into it, as the hotel was only half full, this was very frustrating. However the room was adequate with a nice view of the sea and at night you could hear the waves breaking on the rocks below eve when the doors were closed.
There is a very good buffet breakfast every morning but be prepared for the slow coach waiters who speak no english. We waited for 20 minutes the first morning for rashers to be delivered out and in the end we gave up and eat the eggs on their own.
It was very clean.
The gym is quite small and you have to pay to use it which was not displayed on their internet site. We negotiated with the guy who ran it to get a special rate for the 5 days so don't be afraid to haggle. He can speak very good english and is a former body builder so gave us some good tips for exercising.
A taxi into Malaga each evening cost 15 euro each way, it would have been cheaper to hire a car but the parking and driving I think are mental there. The restaurants in Malaga were not great and again no english menus or speakers in a lot of them.
We travelled to the Puerto Marino in Benamaladina one evening and there was a much better choice and the sceanery was fantastic. Would definitely go back to that area.
The hotel let us stay in the room until 4 pm as our flight was late evening.
We did spend over an hour in the queue at Malaga airport waiting to check in as they only had one check in desk open for the Dublin flights.
All in all it was a nice break, weather was fantastic for the full 5 days we were there. |
