Mar y Sol: Disabled/Carers/Able Bodied Travellers Rave & Rest Paradise!!! by Spannerette |
| Posted 14 June 2006 about a visit in March 2006 | Overall rating: 8.7 |
Really, I have to be honest and say that this VERY PRIVATE & SECURE apartment hotel is more like a private holiday/health resort! Although the outward entrance to the Apartments appear very none-distinct, once you are in the centre of this private complex you realise it is quite cleverly designed with all apartments surrounding the two swimming pools on all sides and the Bar and restaurant face the swimming pools. Surrounded with palm trees and cascading bright coloured trailing flowers on every floor/ building tier.
There is security at reception at all times and a short cut to Los Cristianos shops and beach via rear electric gate activated by swipe cards obtained from reception for the duration of stay.
My wheelchair bound husband and I, as well as family and friends have happily stayed in Mar-Y-Sol four times.
!!!!!!WE HAVE FOUND IT EXCELLENT FOR ANY & ALL LEVELS OF DISABILITY!!!!!!
FACILITIES: Well equipped for the non disabled friends or family that want to spend time together with no worries of access problems of their loved ones! All facilities including cold and special body temperature controlled swimming pools, both with spar laying areas in pools with very good hoists to both pools. Lifeguard on duty to assist!
Facilities also include treatment rooms from Massage to Physio, Physicians and the services of carers if a disabled person was to travel alone but needed backup care whilst on holiday! Unbelievable amount of treatments can be booked during your stay and conviniently on your doorstep! Treatments that are not listed are easily obtainable by just asking.
Other facilities include pickups from/to airport, or anywhere else on island by specially adapted minibuses, but estate taxis are well able to take wheelchairs as well as passengers.
Mar-Y-Sol is short or long term stay with regular users staying up to 6 months of the year. Some apartments are private owner occupied and it is possible to buy apartments if there are any for sale at the time!
Electric wheelchairs, scooters, showerchairs etc can be rented at Mar-Y-Sol or at Orange Badge Services in Los Cristianos (which tend to run cheaper and are negotiable, who also have disabled taxi services). All is delivered and collected from your apartment.
Laundry Services.
Small mini market, range of foods, toiletries, swimwear, newspapers etc...
Library
Computing
Large Scale Chess
Ping pong
Basket ball
Deep Sea Diving School
Keep fit in Pool
Noticeboard for Events!
Both swimming pools are well equipped with sunbeds and Parasols (no shortage)!
Disabled toilets and large changing shower room for disabled swimmers, but apartments are in close proximity with ample lifts all around the complex!
APARTMENTS are cleaned everyday and have kitchen, wheel-in shower/bathroom (shower chair is rented and needs to be reserved in advance), and have balcony or patio seating area, lounge with double patio doors usually overlooking pool, telephone, option of tv/satellite & safe facilities. Apartments are pleasant but not luxurious and I would describe them as being a little tired but very acceptable.
The apartments range from Studio for max 2 person to large apartments, sleeping 8 persons.
Your stay can be: Apartment Only as all have cooking facilities, or half board and full board!
FOOD: VARIED MENU AND CATERS FOR ALL DIETARY NEEDS!
Restaurant serves additional snacks/meals and drinks all day next to the pools till about midnight. (Chips are scrummy with a steak sandwhich!)
Close to Mar-Y-Sol are Chinese and Indian take-aways and many restaurants and bars with entertainment etc....
ENTERTAINMENT: Although not wonderful, there is something usually on in the evenings, Spanish Dancers, Singers, Karaoke etc....some dancing. Fashion shows around pool once a week (daytime). But the atmosphere amongst all is normally very good (regardless of where you come from) and many a good night is spent with everyone joining in with something or other and the waiters tend to be very comical too!! But just around the corner are ample bars, restaurants and shows, so no shortage of entertainment.
Dress code: Whatever you feel like! No such thing as under-dressed! Whatever you are comfortable in as essentially you actually feel that you are in your own home on this small complex and that the bar is your local.
"IT IS REALLY THAT RELAXING"! Although I have included a lot of info for the disabled IT IS A HOLIDAY RESORT with the option of having treatments in holiday atmospheric surroundings and being at home, all rolled into one! Not forgetting the outside entertainment on beaches, many bars restaurants, nightclubs etc. to make it a really cool holiday! An ideal holiday for just friends or family, although I did not see many children during my four stays! But those I saw, enjoyed themselves and revelled in the attention given by others!
You cannot get better for the disabled if you tried!
"The Jockey Club send their injured jockeys here to recoup every year! They are a scream too"!
PLEASE NOTE THAT MAR-Y-SOL IS SITUATED ON A STEEP HILL!
But we found it no problem!

Mar y Sol: how would i book carers? |
| 14 Mar 2008 by Louise Loxham |
I would require carers to assist with morning duties, personal care, toileting, hoisting, dressing. How would i arrange this, how much would it cost, and are there any restrictions? >> Answer this question | |
