We visited the Maxim Plaza Resort in February and stayed in the main complex and not the garden resort. The garden resort looked ok, but was not near the beach and should not be described as that!
I don't think the resort was as bad as some reviews have made out, although i wouldn't rate the hotel 5*. I'm a travel agent and found it difficult to justify why it was rated this. I would say it is a average 4*. The problem wasn't nessecarily with the hotel but with the other visitors who appeared to be rude and loud towards the staff. I think the food was bland and repetitive as well. If I travelled back to Sharm I would stay at the lugana vista or the baron resorts from what i know.
The rooms were impressive however and they were well maintained. We were given a room away from any noise and right at the bottom by the beach and it was lovely!
Going to sharm is definitely a beach holiday and i found that there isn't a lot to do unless you are prepared to travel around to other parts of egypt. the snorkelling was fab though!

went for two weeks beginning of december,weather great,food o.k.nothing special,stayed in gardens when asked to go in white knight resort.rooms basic, small no baths,no double beds no bottlewater available only if you paid for it!this hotel is next door to the airport and has loads of aircraft noise.
would not go back to this hotel again this was second time in sharm which we love but was very dissappointed with this hotel stayed in laguna vista last january which was great and the hotel was only a 4*.
pool was heated two days before we came home so we didnt use it much because it was too bloody cold!the sea were warmer so we did lots of snorkelling which was great,went to the beach everyday but was a pain because of the voucher for drinks system which was rather anoying when its all supposed to be one hotel resort!
