Room before refurbishment

We stayed at the Skylon for two nights and found it to be a very good hotel.
It now looks a bit run down from the outside but dont let that put you off.
The hotel is currently being refurbished. Thought they would hve started with the front of the hotel as some of the lettering is missing from the name.
All the public rooms - reception, lounge, restaurant/bar areas are very pleasant and comfortable.
Meals can be taken in the restaurant or bar meals are available for reasonable prices.
The Skylon is situated just out of town with a bus stop across the road. (No.16 into town for €1.30)
A taxi back at night cost us about €15.
We got a very good discounted rate for the room from Expedia and we were put into one of the pre-refurbished rooms.
It was clean and large enough with tv, hair dryer, iron and ironing board/trouser press. Complimentary toiletries in bathroom. View of rooftop only (as pic) The refurbished rooms have flat scren tv on the walls.
We had cereals, fruit and toast and full Irish breakfast at the hotel which was good value.
We tried to use the payphone in the lobby but it was playing up. We went to reception and they offered their phone for use without hesitation with no charge.
There is car parking space at The Skylon which is monitored.
Don't let the pix or outside appearance put you off this hotel as it is very nice with friendly staff.
