Mediterraneo: Excellent Mediterraneo by Paul Richards 1 |
| Posted 02 June 2008 about a visit in May 2008 | Overall rating: 9.4 |
Stayed at the Mediterraneo in May 2008 for 7 nights.
Room. Nice large, clean, well equipped room. Our room was overlooking the pool at the back of the hotel. We had requested a room an the first floor at the back as we knew the hotel was situated on a busy road so didn’t want to be bothered by traffic noise. The room was perfect and had a lovely view of the pool. We had two single beds together to make a double, another separate single bed and a sofa bed. My only gripe was the beds were a little hard and I found them quite uncomfortable but my fiancee and our daughter didn’t have a problem. The maids cleaned the room every day to a good standard. Very clean with plenty of towels/toilet rolls/toiletries etc Large bathroom with bath and shower. Very large wardrobes with plenty of hangers and good storage space. Safety deposit box in the wardrobe. Tv with plenty of channels, radio with a few channels. Best of all, a fridge ! Perefect for bottled water, snacks or a few beers !
Location. The hotel is located directly across from Benidorm Palace on a busy road. A good 10-15 minute walk to the beach. Only a 5 minute walk to the indoor market to change euros at either Tony’s or Sheila’s. The Rincon area that the hotel is in is now nicely built up with plenty of new and modern 4 star hotels, lots of bars and shops. This area is a lot livelier than it was a few years ago but still quiet compared to central Benidorm.
Food and drink. Drinks are the usual all inclusive variety of local brand drinks. Some spirits better than others. Draught lager is Amstel which is better than Cruzcampo that is usually available in all inclusive hotels. The bar area is large with plenty of outside terrace seating and a poolside bar also. In an evening it was difficult to find a seat in the main bar as for some reason the hotel had decided to take up huge areas of floor space with contemporary style sofa seating and large chairs that could only seat 6 people or so. The other smaller tables would have been better. Bar service was quick but only one drink per card and maximum two cards per person (obviously you could use an infants card also). The restaurant was nice with plenty of tables and never a problem finding a seat. Waitress service serving drinks to your table. White, Red or Rose wine available by the bottle. Food was nice. Buffet style. Not a huge choice but sometimes some other hotels can over face you with options. I found the quantity here perfect. Food was fresh and well cooked. Plenty of main courses of meat, fish or veggie. Range of veg, potatoes, chips, salads, fresh bread, fruit, pasta etc every evening. A small separate show cooking section with chef also. My faves were Ghoulash, bacon chops, gammon joint, Mexican Night and the pasta. Also good selection of desserts. Ice creams for kids which are available all day. Food overall very nice with a good selection. Snacks however were very poor with little on offer such as burgers, hotdogs etc. breakfast was the usual cereals, full English, fruits etc
Entertainment. Quite poor. Hotel was quiet on an evening compared to other all inclusive hotels we have stayed in. Entertainment every night consisted of Bingo, kids disco and occasional flamenco dancing. A Spanish band were on every evening. The main bar has a small smoking section and rest is non smoking. The childrens entertainment team work hard during the day. There is a kids club via the playground which has games, activities etc during the day and keeps them entertained.
Staff on a whole are great. I had read bad reports about the staff but every one we encountered were friendly including reception, bar staff, dining room, entertainment, kids club and even the maids.
Pool area was nice and clean. Plenty of loungers, never a problem. Large terrace with plenty of chairs and tables. Clean and spotless everywhere in the hotel. Pool was very cold. Childrens pool was quite small. A pool side shop was always open but we never used it.
Be wary of your children at the reception area of the hotel as the main door leads straight out onto a busy main road and also at the side of the hotel is a gate which also leads onto a road. The gate opens quite easily and is not very child friendly. We kept an eye on our daughter at all times but noticed a number of children opening the gate. Might be an idea for the hotel to make the gate child friendly.
The hotel is Very close to Mundomar and Aqualandia. We walked up the hill and it took 5-10 minutes. Discount vouchers are available throughout the resort but we found the best offer in a McDonald’s Happy Meal giving half price tickets !
Overall, really enjoyed our stay. The hotel gave us everything we wanted from our holiday and we are looking to return next year but for a week longer !!

Mediterraneo: Gorgeous Hotel by Audrey Grierson |
| Posted 15 February 2006 about a visit in February 2006 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
We visited the Mediterraneo from the 4/02 to 11/02, 2 adults (27,23) and a child (2). The hotel is spotlessly clean. The rooms were very spacious and very well cleaned. The staff were all really helpful and very pleasant.
The hotel is situated a short walk from the beach, but it is a nice stroll down to it. We preferred the location of this hotel compared to others as it was a lot quieter, and the low rise building was definitely better for us. There is a brilliant play park out the back which kept our young one happy and tired him out.
The meals were what you would expect, there was a great variety, although to be fair because we were only there for a week we only stayed in for dinner twice, we preferred to go out and sample the restaurants surrounding us. The breakfast, again we only stayed in the hotel for 3 times during the week but found it to be ample and of a good variety. It got our son's seal of approval!!! I would say to you to try "Little Belfast" for their Ulster Fry! 2 minutes along the road, it is brilliant and the staff are very welcoming, informative on the area and friendly.
Mundomar opening was delayed til the 26/02 so decided to go to Terra Natura for the day, this was brilliant, but a few of the shops etc werent open. It was really nice and clean. It was brilliant going when we did because it was so quiet and you had full viewing of the animals but I would definitely say this was worthwhile going to. There is buggys you can hire there as well and although you can go with your tour operator, we didnt think First Choice was worth the money
We bought our tickets which were 21 euro, kids from 0-4 years go free, and then we got the bus, it takes about 20 minutes by buy and costs a euro. We arrived at 11 and got the last bus at 5:15pm.
I would definitely like to go back to Benidorm, and only to this hotel.

Mediterraneo: great hotel by Maureen Lee |
| Posted 20 January 2006 about a visit in January 2006 | Overall rating: 9.7 |
We went to this hotel 3rd-10th Jan.2006,We were a party of 6, 2 adults, 2 oldies and 2 children. The food was lovely and plenty of choice, there was saomething to suit everyone. The staff were very friendly and reception staff most helpful.
It was very clean and the rooms were spacious. There was a kids disco at 8.30 each evening for about half an hour, then bingo, then a act of some kind followed that. The hotel as a great kids playground, and the indoor pool was fantastic. There was no kids club as such, but the children age 5 and 3 enjoyed themselves.
It was about 10-20 minutes walk to the beach, but plenty of shops and bars on the way down. Would highly reccomend this hotel, the bonus being no waiting for lifts, it is only 2 floors.
Will diffinately be back again.

Mediterraneo: Excellent hotel and facilities by Robert Barber |
| Posted 24 August 2005 about a visit in July 2005 | |
We did know in advance that this was a newly built hotel, but were still impressed with the standards 2 years on. Very clean, hotel generally very pleasant. The food (buffet style) was always very high standards and a big choice to keep all tastes happy. We were all inclusive which was great value although I think the deadline of FREE drinks of 23:00 is a little too early. A 20 min stroll from the beach but very near the local water park. Highly recommended.
