The Meriton Grand is good quality hotel, deserving its 4* rating.
The rooms are spacious, comfortably furnished and well maintained and the bathrooms are bright and modern (Tiled, big mirror, hairdryer).
The breakfast selection is splendid, with all the ingredients of an English breakfast (or as near as you are likely to get when not actually at home in Blighty), continental style breakfast (the cold cuts, the strange cheese etc) and a traditional Estonian breakfast too (more variations on pickled herring than you can shake a stick at). Plus fruit juice, serve- (and top up-) yourself coffee and a DIY toaster. (No marmite though, obviously).
The hotel has a bar, 24 hour reception and a lovely little coffee + cake outlet on the ground floor. It claims to have a Casino, but actually has a room full of slot machines.
We stayed on the 5th floor, and the 5th floor lift lobby is a huge area with floor to ceiling windows down one side overlooking the city walls and the top of Alexander Nevsky cathedral. (Maybe every floor had this - I didn't feel the urge to check!). There's also a water cooler by the lift - very handy if you come back dehydrated.
Staff were helpful and friendly and taxis are available at a moment's notice.
The hotel location is about 10-15 minutes by taxi from Tallin Airport and about 5 minutes walk from the old town. (Well, technically, the old town is just over the road, but you do have to walk up a small hill to the nearest entry point).
Summary
Good quality hotel; rooms, hotel and staff, and good location relative to the airport and the Old Town. Recommended.
