| Miami Beach Review: Miami Beach - A Great Little Place, next to A great Big Place | | Written by Fc on 17 Mar 2005 about a trip in Nov 2004.
| If you have ever seen Miami Vice and got a picture in your mind, rewind it and start again. Miami Beach, particularly South Beach is like the girl next door, as you feel immediately comfortable as if youve know it all your life. My overwhelming impression is just how easy visting South Beach is, you dont for one minute feel thretened in any way. We were out one night til after 3am and walking back to the hotel was just not a worry.
Full of amazing variety of clubs, bars and restaurants, South Beach offers somewhere for everyone. I am in my early 50's, so figured I might feel a bit out of place with all the beautifull people - not true, no matter what your age, you instantly feel at home everywhere and the locals are just so nice to you.
One of the reasons to visit South Beach is to see the Art Deco buildings that are everywhere you look. I was suprised however how tatty and run down some were, but equally suprised just how amazing others were. Most of the Hotels in South Beach are housed in these fantastic buildings and deciding where to stay could be one of your big problems.
I guess I expected South Beach to look like the pictures you see, but it doesent, its really down home and no where near as glitsy as the pictures suggest.
Dont think if you have visted the States that you know what South Beach is like, as you dont. The whole place has a South American, Cuban feel about it and this is reflected in some of the amazing looking staff (both guys and gals) that serve you in the bars and restaurants.
I was really impressed with South Beach, its like visting 4 or 5 countries in one and the atmosphere where ever you go is "Electric-Relaxed".
You know it was just great to be able to drive down Ocean Drive, park your car on the side of the road, without looking for a space for ages, or getting your car towed away.
I cant reccomend South Beach Miami highly enough, its like no where I have ever been and you will probably feel the same way when you visit.
I started by mentioning Miami Vice, for sure there is vice everywhere, but in Miami, it does not jump out at you, or force itself on you, if you want it, well you are going to have to go looking for it.
Miami is a location for everyone, you dont have to be rich to eat or drink, although if you want to blow some serious cash, you certainly can, but if you just want to sit in a bar on Ocean Drive and watch the world go by, you can do that on even the thinnest budget.
I havent even touched on the Beach itself, or the Bay, or the City of Miami yet, thats great also, but this sites going to run out of space if I go on for much longer.
If you want a special unique experience for a few days, put South Beach Miami on your list and you will remember it forever.
Have a great time - I know I did ! ---- and I know you will... |
