| Milan Review: | | Written by Lea Butcher 1 on 14 Sep 2004 about a trip in Aug 2004.
| Milan is incredibly spread out - it makes London look small.
It has so many shops you are almost (but not quite) outfaced, & they open until anything from 1930 to 2200!
However, we were expecting Plaza's & leafy Square's - not so! Milan is a concrete jungle - I felt deprived of greenery.
It is also absolutely covered in graffitti - new & old buildings, & no attempt seems to be made to remove it. The one place you might expect graffitti - the Metro - is immaculate!
There are also a lot of very pushy, mainly immigrant rose sellers who are allowed into the bars & restaurants - one came very close to wearing a rose somewhere having repeatedly interupted a romantic moment!
Having said that - the Duomo is one of the most stunning buildings I have ever seen, & the Via Dante had a photographic exhibition along it - which, remarkably, was free of graffitti!
Overall - there are many, many nicer cities to visit - but the inescapable fact is that the superb Monza Grand Prix is only 16km away! |
