We stayed at the Milford Plaza for 5 nights in December 2005, it was a great holiday but the hotel wasn't great.
The location of this hotel is excellent, it is just 2 minutes walk from Times Square. The security at the hotel was very good, you have to show your room pass before they will let you through to the rooms. The room we had was adequate, quite small and the bathroom was cramped and very worn. We were on the 15th floor so the noise from the street didn't bother us but the noise from the lifts was quite irritating at times.
The staff were friendly and courteous but considering how busy the hotel was there didn't seem to be enough of them on duty. They also forgot to tell us that the lifts on either side of he lobby went to different floors of the hotel, so it took us a while to find our room (not what you need after an 8 hour flight & 90 minutes on a bus!)
The cafe / coffee bar in the basement is not recommended, we only had breakfast there once & the service was terrible, the waiters started trying to clear the table & reset it around us, whilst we were still eating, it was also very expensive.
The price of this hotel was a lot less than most of the others we considered & bearing in mind it was December I suppose the prices weren't bad, however the taxes that were added on were ridiculous, we knew there were some taxes but the invoice listed about 4 separate taxes a night.
The hotel was mainly clean but very old & could do with an overhaul. As we were out & about so much, the hotel was adequate for our needs & if you don't want to spend a lot then this will suit you, but ask for a room on a higher floor to minimise noise & don't expect too much!

I stayed at this hotel with a friend. The location was great, just off Times Square in the heart of all the action! The rooms were small (although I understand this is usual in New York) but clean. A good base with all the sights close by.
