| Mojacar Travel Guide: Mojacar - Easy Going - Low Key - Brilliant!
| | Written by Phil Smith 2 on 28 Nov 2006 about a trip in Sep 2004.
| Mojacar shopping | 2.0 | | Not for shopaholics, the nearest decent place to shop would be Almeria city which has everything from interesting antiques to the latest fashions. |
Mojacar restaurants | 10.0 | In the village itself, El Antler serves international cuisine out of the tiniest kitchen I have ever seen. Fantastic steaks and lenguado. The antler chicken is very good. Very reasonable set menu.(It's been there for over 20 years so they must be doing it right!)
Another old favourite is the Desert Wind (El viento del desierto) where lalal, a lovely cheerful morroccan serves up a huge VAT of mussels and will prepare cous cous for 2 or more but only to order. Very reasonably priced but tasty food.
On the beach our favourites are San Bernabe, Omega and the very reasonable and typically Spanish Torre Bahia. There is also an excellent "Chiringuito" called Neptuno which serves excellent food, has friendly staff and the last time we were there the G&Ts were "On the house"
In Garrucha is a lovely place called Hotel Tikar where the food and wine are just that bit better and although you pay a bit more it is well worth it! Do book though. |
Mojacar attractions | 6.0 | | The village itself is very interesting with narrow winding streets where you think you are lost but you are never far from the centre. Apart from that there are lot's of nice places around if you are "into" Spain. For a fun day out try the Wild West movie sets at Tabernas or if you are a bird lover head for Cabo de Gata natural Park. |
Mojacar events | | The Moors and Christians Fiesta in June is truly spectacular with fabulous costumes, mock battles and the odd firework.
They also have San Augustin Fiesta in August which is just a four day binge really. If you want to do a Fiesta it has to be the Moors & Christians! |
Mojacar day trips | | Cabo de Gata and the Tabernas movie sets are good if very different days out.
Plenty of nice drives in the mountains and along the coast. Almost anywhere is worth a visit if you have a car.
Almeria is a nice city, not in the Seville/Valencia league but still well worth a look! |
Getting to Mojacar | | | Almeria is the nearest airport (approx 50 min) but Alicante and Murcia can both be cheaper and offer more varied flight options. |
When to visit Mojacar | | Car hire is almost essential although if you just want the beach and the village there are plenty of buses |

| Mojacar guide | | Mojacar Restaurants | | AVOID 'El Antler'! After a few good reviews my partner and I decided to try this restaurant in Mojacar Pueblo. The woman owner was very bolshy bordering rude, the food was really average and there... |
| Mojacar guide | 6.5 | Mojacar - Easy Going - Low Key - Brilliant! | | We have been visiting Mojácar for over 20 years so Obviousely we like it!
The playa 'strip' has Fish & Chips, Steak & Kidney Pies and English Breakfasts - if that is what you want any clearly many... |

So far as I know they don't have one.
They do get busy but unless they are really frantic they will usually fit you in.

Is there a timetable or programme of events for the moors & christians fiesta >> Answer this question | | | | >> | Answer 1 by Phil Smith 2 (18 Aug)
Moors and Christians is a bit of a 'Moveable feast'. Always in June but not the same date each year.
Your best bet is to Google it.
