New York City attractions

Iconic buildings and locations exist around almost every corner. Don’t leave NYC before you’ve at least visited The Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, China Town, Little Italy, Central Park, Macy’s, The Empire State Building, Times Square and 5th Avenue. Museum lovers shouldn’t miss The Natural History Museum, The Museum of Modern Art and The Guggenheim.

New York City History and Culture

The city so good they named it twice and so familiar you’ll think you’ve been here before! From the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, Times Square, Central Park to the Upper East Side, it’s all familiar from a thousand films and TV Shows.

New York’s skyline is one of the most recognisable in the world and getting in amongst all those giant skyscrapers can be a real buzz for Europeans more used to low rise town planning – Just be careful not to strain your neck gazing constantly upward!

Nestled amongst the colossal ‘scrapers of Midtown in old world contrast to all the steel and glass sits The Chapel of St Paul’s (1766), New York’s oldest building still in constant use and once its tallest. George Washington worshipped here back in 1789 and having survived 9/11 unscathed, the “the little chapel that stood” served as a place of rest and refuge of recovery workers at ground zero. St Paul’s is now host to the “Unwavering Spirit” exhibition.

New York’s Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are emblematic of the hope offered by a new world. After the excellent Ellis Island Immigration Centre; explore the city’s ethnic neighbourhoods Little Italy and China Town.

This city has a buzz that is all its own and whether you visit for the excellent shopping, world class museums or non-stop nightlife, you can’t help but feel exhilarated by the experience.

Getting around New York City

Apart from the old city around The Battery and Broadway, which cuts diagonally across town, New York is built on a simple grid which makes navigation exceptionally easy. New York is a walking city, but for longer journeys you may wish to travel by bus, subway or cab.

When to visit New York City

New York is a year round destination. Visit in summer for afternoons sunbathing in Central Park and winter for the beautiful lights and if you are lucky, snow!
