My wife and I booked a short break at this hotel via 'Easy Breaks'.
The first thing you notice is that the car park takes EIGHT cars (we were lucky and got the last space). The hotel looks as if it was built in the early 70's and it shows. The exterior and woodwork are well overdue for an overhaul. The first thing that hits you when you enter is the smell of chlorine from the pool!. The staff are friendly and helpfull, the dining room is clean and the meals are above average for a 3 star hotel (portions are large and selection good).
The rooms although clean are dated and urgently require a makeover. There are screws in the wall where the trouser press once was attached, the old wallpaper has been painted over to make it look better, the television is too large to sit on the table and the bathroom also needs urgent attention.
We had the misfortune to discover the toilet decided it had enough and would not flush. It weas reported to reception and before I returned to the room assistance was already there - excellent. This was, however, short lived as I was advised they do not have maitainence staff on Saturday and it would be looked at on Monday - glad we were leaving on Sunday!.
They also do not appear to invest in heating even in November - the rooms were not warm and even the dining room was cold.
As stated the car park only holds eight cars and ther are waiting restrictions surrounding the hotel so the hotel have a secure? car park about three minutes walk away. They give you a code, you punch it in, gate opens and you are into a car park that has no security features that I could see. To get out, you opened a heavt pedestrian only door and had to slam it to ensure it closed and your car was, hopefully, safe. Strangely, unlike other hotels, the security code is not changed on a daily basis.
Would I return to this hotel? the answer would have to be no. I have stayed in many lower grade hotels that have been far better quality than this one.
Good points- well the food was good - thats about it really.
