Nordic: Excellent Hotel a pleasure to stay at by Peter Mills |

The Nordic Hotel is a relatively recent quality 4 star hotel to choose from in Soldeu El Tarter. I have stayed here three times and always look forward to my return. It’s certainly not the cheapest place you could stay at, and possibly not the most lively part of the resort, but these minor points are forgotten when the staff are this pleasant, the rooms so clean and the choice of food so utterly fantastic.
The views haven't dissapointed us thus far, but it is obviously better to get a room facing the slopes so you can watch the action unfold over a cold beer from your balcony.
The Nordic was built around, and is joined to the Apartments Del Clos, which I have also stayed in twice before, and you still get to enjoy the Nordics buffet if you do. It can get a little smokey downstairs in the evening as every Spanish person seems to enjoy their cigarillo, so the bar area is probably not ideal for babies and small children. But its nice and big and always has a welcoming atmosphere.
The elevators did break down a lot and we were over charged for the drinks bill at the end of the week, but this was sorted amicably by the manager. The evening’s entertainment is usually provided by the resident guitarist and his many classic recordings of some well known favourites plus a few authentic Spanish tracks to get you going. Its location is ideal if you simply want to step on to the chair lift and not have to walk too far to the slopes. Although as of last year they have strangely moved the exit for the lift and you do now have an unwelcome trek up a hill to the Hotel at the end of a tiring day. Pity that.
There is a nice sauna and small pool to relax in Inc in the price, and other forms of entertainment such as bowling and games room.
There are other excellent hotels in Soldeu which may appeal more to those seeking a livelier location, as the Nordic area is lacking in local bars and nightlife. Saying that, the Nordic remains one of my favourite hotels I’ve ever stayed at and there is very little I could take issue with. Highly recommended. See you next year Nordic.
