Olu Deniz shopping

Shopping in Turkey is brilliant, barter for a great deal in shops or visit the local markets on certain days.

Olu Deniz nightlife

There are a few clubs in the resort but not many, we stayed in restaurants or bars for cocktails and a good night.

Olu Deniz restaurants

We never got bothered by restaurants all they asked was to take a menu. We ate at several great restaurants: Peppinos which we loved the food and fishbowls, the Steak House (near the hotel) which had great food for the fraction of the price here, there is a great hotel restaurant left at the beach it offers Italian, Indian and Thai, although a bit more than other places, it was still cheap and fantastic. We had a drink in Sultan Peppers during a world cup match which had a great atmosphere.

Tipping is 10-15% in restaurants for food or drinks.

Olu Deniz attractions

We had half a day at the lagoon which is beautiful, there is a small charge to go (2.5 lira) and a small charge for sun beds (6 lira) as the beaches are stony and pebbly. A must see!!!

Olu Deniz day trips

We did 3 day trips from Guide Tours (turn left at the hotel, second street on the left, along the smaller mountain). www.guidetoursturkey.com They have TÜRSAB insurance even though reps say they have no insurance and Mehmet gave us great deals.

All trips pick up from the hotel, with air conditioning, English speaking guide and include lunch. Some areas you visit have a small charge. Our 1st trip was to Fethiye market on Tuesday we had no idea how to get there otherwise. We stopped at a gold factory (no obligation to purchase) which was very interesting and beautiful; Turkey is cheap for gold as no tax is paid. If you are looking to buy gold from Turkey take your plastic as you will love with everything. We went to the market which was full of clothes and bags as well as apple tea, Turkish delight, hand made jewellery and crafts, fresh food and fruit. Whilst in Fethiye a walk along the harbour, the view is stunning. On the way to Kaya (ghost town) we stopped at Fethiye rock tombs. At the Kaya you have a BBQ lunch, you don’t have to go to into the ghost town but it was well worth a look (5 lira). It isn’t advised for those who can not walk long distances as the pathway is uphill and stony. Allow enough time to turn back for the coach.

Our 2nd trip was to Saklikent Gorge. We stopped at the ancient ruins of the Lycian village of Tlos (like Kaya the pathway isn’t friendly) we also walked to the Greek theatre, passed rock tombs and pomegranate trees!! Next is the Trout Farm (unusual but unmissable) situated under tress and surrounded by small and unusual waterfalls. You may ‘tickle’ trout at the bar. Here you have your BBQ lunch. Afterwards is the Gorge, it is beautiful and cold but a great laugh. We had some water sandshoes but you can also hire special shoes as other footwear isn’t recommended. Neither is taking bags or cameras as you need both hands free. There are people there to take photos of you and they are worth buying (5 lira).

Our 3rd trip was the Ölüdeniz Boat Trip where you visit Blue Cave, Butterfly Valley (small charge, no pathway) please beware of falling rocks!!!, a cove where you have a BBQ lunch, St. Nicholas Island (small charge for ruins), cold water spring and Camel Beach. You can swim in the sea at nearly all stops so take swimwear and towels.

Last time I went to Turkey we went to Dalyan to the mudbath and turtle beach. it is a fun and grat day out, lunch is also included.

Getting to Olu Deniz

We had a transfer coach from Dalaman to Oludeniz. It took around 2 hours. The views are stunning so try not to fall asleep.

Getting around Olu Deniz

I have been to Turkey twice and still not used a Dolmus bus. They are how locals get around but we decided to stick with the trips to see the attractions. Taxis or taksis are cheap enough to get to the nearby towns around £5-10.
