Orlando Club Resort: Dirty, loud, cheap! by Peter Warnes |
| Posted 09 February 2007 about a visit in October 2002 | Overall rating: 4.7 |
I have just returned from a weeks holiday in this interesting resort. After reading all of the reports on the accommodation before I went, I was nervous to say the least as to what I was letting myself in for.
The staff when we arrived were friendly enough, but we had to wait an hour for our rooms to be ready. After travelling for hours and feeling hot and bothered from the transfer, we were not pleased, being told to hang around for another hour. They did however, give us drinks vouchers for the lounge bar, just inside the reception area.
The whole lounge area stank of vomit, and cheesy feet and the furniture was cigarette burned , cheap, old and well passed it's life expectancy. The music was so loud, and yet it was only lunchtime, and many very common people, smoking heavily and being rowdy sat around drinking and being noisy. (Not a very good start to my holiday)
We eventually got the keys to our apartment, and on first impressions, it looked clean and very basic. (I did expect this as it's only two stars) But on closer inspection, there was mould in the bathroom, rust on the fridge, and rips in the lounge furniture. By the first evening, I had seen only two cockroaches, which is not bad, albeit that one was dead and surrounded by thousands of tiny ants eating it.
The swimming pool was a complete joke, as there were certainly NOT enough sunbeds to go around. I watched the queue start at 9.10am the first morning as our balcony looked over the pool area. By 9.40am they were unlocked and there was a mad rush to grab a sunbed. Many people who had been queuing, didn't actually get one, and some had to make do with broken beds, with one arm missing or no back supports. Probably 90% of the lucky sunbed seekers, promptly put their towels on them and then buggered off for most of the morning.
I just laid on a towel, on the hard slippery tiled pool edge. This only happened once, as I went to other pools for the rest of my stay in Tenerife. ie: Aqua Park, Sky Park and the hotel just over the road from Orlando.
After quite an unpleasant experience in the lounge area on arrival, we didn't see any evening entertainment as there was no way I wanted to spend a single minute in that awful area.
Orlando Park Resort is OK if you like very very basic accommodation, and enjoy staying in a "Butlins" style place in the sun. I will certainly not be returning to Orlando, although I will holiday in Tenerife again. I have always loved Playa De Las Americas, and will not let one bad experience put me off.
