| Palma Review: | | Written by Leo1 on 11 Oct 2004 about a trip in Sep 2005.
| Don't miss the trip by train to Soller.
Get 10.50 train from Palma Railway Station to Soller. (Takes about 1 hour - costs a few euros). Soller is a genuine Spanish Market town, town square, cafes around square, old men gossiping on the benches etc. Then get tram from Soller to Porto Soller, a ten minute trip. I believe tram is a 1912 tram, built to transport oranges from Soller country area for onward transportation.
The tram goes between the the back gardens of the houses, and through the Orange and Lemon orchards. I`ve been there in May, July and October, and the summer months is quite spectatular when the fruit trees are laden.
When in Porto Soller get the bus back to Palma, but make sure you get the Porto Soller/ Valdemossa/Deia/Palma bus, and not the Palma express bus. (That simply goes back the quick way through the Tunnel).
Porto Soller bus station is round the back of the sea front (just ask for "Bus - Palma").
This is a good day out, and if you time it right, you can have sufficient time in both Soller and Porto Soller to mooch about.
Train trip from Palma goes through the mountains and really is very scenic.
A very good, reasonably priced, day out. |
