I've stayed here five times between 1994 and 2004, more often than any other foreign hotel. I've had some fantastic times; good food, hotel virtually on the beach, bus stop to other beaches right outside, ideally positioned half way between the town and the bay. Furthermore, while single holidaymakers often get a raw deal in foreign hotels, the Palmyra has always given me a double room with a lovely sea view for a single supplement of just £1.50 a night. My last holiday in 2004 cost £555 in total. Guests are mostly young people but no yobs; they tend to stay in the cheap and nasty apartments in town.
But...there is usually a but! It has recently been upgraded from three to four star and in the 2007 brochure (Thomson 1st edition page 93) the single supplement has gone up to £10, and a week in July would now cost over £700! I find this strange because San Antonio has been less busy in recent years, and in 2004 the Palmyra was less than half full. I suspect this is mostly due to increasing competition from rival resorts like Ayia Napa where going to a night club does not cost anything near San Ann's typical £25 or so.
I really don't see how a massive price hike is going to bring the punters back, so sorry Palmyra, I'm going elsewhere unless you reduce your prices.
