Paphos Amathus Beach: Superb Hotel by Dorothy Robinson |
| Posted 23 October 2003 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
We have stayed at the Amathus Beach twice and enjoyed every moment. There are one or two nice little touches like being provided with iced towels while sunbathing. Very high standards and pleasant staff.

Paphos Amathus Beach: Fantastic Holiday by Me! |
| Posted 27 July 2003 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
We (4 ladies) have just returned from a 7night holiday at Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel, (21st June - 28th June)it is a first rate 5* hotel right on the beach.
You are warmly greeted on arrival with a refreshing drink and a frozen towel.
The air conditioning throughout the hotel was first rate and very welcoming when you walked in from the hot sun. We controled our own air conditioning in our room and were able to leave it on constantly, even when we were not in the room.
We booked 2 limited sea veiw rooms, they put us next door to each other which was excellent for us and the rooms were very nice spacious rooms, with marble bathroom.
Your bed sheets are changed daily (if you remember to place the card requesting this service on your bed each day).
It was free to use the safty deposit box in your room, it was key opperated.
The mini bar was well stocked but we only used it to cool our own drinks.
There was plenty of staff around the pool area each day to help you arrange your beds and umberellas where ever you wanted them (in the sun or out of the sun) it was no trouble for the lovely pool attendants.
Pool Towels are provided each day by the hotel, and frozen towels are handed out about 11.30am every day to all guests on and around the pool and beach areas. They were a welcomed soother for your hot spots.
There was waiter service around the pool and beach area, and every where in the hotel, no need to carry money with you at all in the hotel, just sign the drinks, food and spa treatments to your room and pay at the end of your holiday.
My sister, my niece and I were going out one morning and asked one of the pool attendants to keep an eye on our 80 year old mother and to make sure she was always in the shade and he was more than happy to help. He was lovely to her while we were away.
We had 2 lovely meals in Cavalinies Resturaunt which is close by the hotel (turn right as you leave the hotel and it is only a couple of minutes walk away).
We had a lovely meal in Gabors French Resturaunt too, it's next door to Cavalinies but upstairs.
We ate lunch each day in the Amphora Bar (one sandwich between two is more than sufficient as they were very large portions) £6.50 per sandwich, washed down with a cold Hieniken £3.50. ( the drinks were expensive in the hotel) but we were on holiday and you don't mind paying over the odds now and then. Our first day we ate lunch outside at the pool bar but we were not impressed with it and ate inside after that. The menu was much better at the Amphora Bar and the air conditioning was great.
A glass of champagne was £6.00 with our meal in the Terrace Resturant at night.
We took 4 bottles of champagne with us in our cases and just rang room service to bring a bucket of ice and glasses to our room, we enjoyed a drink in our room while getting ready to go out each night.
You could eat breakfast inside or out on the spacious terrace overlooking the sea. The buffet was extensive and your eggs were cooked infront of you.
The waiters were a bit slow at bringing the tea & coffee to your table at breakfast. (that was our one and only complaint of the whole holiday)
My sister and I had a massage one day at the hotel spa and it was so relaxing I nearly fell asleep.
The bus service was excellent, the bus stop was only a couple of minutes walk to the right of the hotel, and buses ran about every 10 minutes to the harbour or the old town or to Coral Bay. (Only 50 cents to anywhere)
We used a taxi sometimes (£4 from harbour to our hotel)
It was about a 25 minute walk to the harbour , left from our hotel.
We went to the harbour at night a couple of times where we enjoyed a few drinks sitting at Hobo's Bar watching the people go by.
We went to Catholic Mass at St Paul's Pillar Church on the Sunday. English Mass is at 12 noon. It was packed, but very enjoyable, get there early in order to get a seat. The ruins outside around the church are very interesting too, and a good location to take photo's.
We went to Coral Bay one day but we think it is over rated, ( the beach cafes are both scruffy and the beach was crowded) we were not impressed and couldn't wait to get back to our lovely hotel and pool area.
We visited the Mosaics one morning and found it very interesting, we were going to go on to the Tombs of the Kings but the heat was too much for us and we headed to Hobo's Bar at the harbour for a cold drink instead.
We would all return to this fantastic hotel.
I will be including some lovely photos soon.
