Trip was for a couple on holiday. Suelees would absolutely not visit again.
| We arrived a few days before Christmas and must say it was not what we expected. We stayed in a great little hotel in Ktima (Upper) Paphos which is the administrative area/'real' town rather than Kato Paphos the coast/port area but did walk down there (3km) the first night as apart from the hotel couldn't find a bar open in the town. Ripped off in the taxi back but our fault as it was our first night and we hadn't sussed the price. Kato Paphos was a disappointment with mainly tacky looking touristy bars. Plenty restaurants which is ok if you want to eat but none particularly pleasing. It might sound snobby but Paphos is far too touristy for us. With M&S, Next, Mcdonalds etc etc we might as well have been in the UK. Mind you if you want glasses you're spoilt for choice with all the opticians there so take your prescription. Our fault I suppose for purposely chosing a resort type area but as we'd been away before at xmas to places where almost everything is closed we thought it might be a little livelier.
It was cold and gloomy and although there were a few people wandering about I think most must have stayed in one of the numerous hotels all along the coast road. There's building work/holiday homes going up all over the place. Most pubs were Brit oriented with football on televisions in almost every bar. Another area, the 'Tomb of the Kings Road' was just as bad. Obviously there are some fantastic sights but all in all a big disappointment for us. I must say thought the Greek Cypriots are really friendly and accommodating.
Take note, the driving is atrocious. A car passed me in a narrow street (at 11 am) and immediately hit the opposite wall. He got out but was so drunk could hardly stand. We saw three other accidents whilst there and were told by one of the locals that drink driving is extremely common.
We did find some good places though and I'll update this in next few days |
