Paraiso del Sol: Not the Ritz but OK. by Peter Warnes |
| Posted 28 October 2007 about a visit in October 2007 | Overall rating: 6.6 |
After flying very early on the first flight out of Gatwick, we arrived at the The Paraiso del Sol at 9.30am. Check-in was not until 2pm, so we were delighted to know that our room was in fact ready. (It was probably because we were not in school holiday times, and the resort was quiet)
The reception staff were efficient and friendly. However being so early, the porters didn't start work until 10am, which meant we had to find our room ourselves. This is not usually a problem but this resort is in three sections and with three room number 28's, it was slightly confusing finding the correct one.
Situated in a very quiet area at the back of the resort our appartment was on first inspection huge. A large living area, with kitchenette, a massive bedroom with a seperate toilet and bathroom (both with wash basins) which was lovely for us to both have our own wash basin.
The decor was old and slightly scruffy, the tiles dated back to the 70's and were cracked a bit, but everywhere seemed clean.
The furniture was dark and old but I was still satisfied mainly because of the size and cleanliness of the appartment. There was a tiny pay for TV, but again this was aceptable as there was a huge selection of English channels.
A fully equiped kitchen was welcome and I was surprised that the hob had electric and gas rings. (Something I have not come across before)
In the huge bedroom were two very comfortable single beds with bedside tables, a dressing table and a large mirrored adequately sized wardrobe with a safe inside. So this was all acceptable albeit dated and the wardrobe doors felt like they would come off the runners if you were not careful.
The huge bathroom had lot's of cupborad space, a clean shower over the bath, but poor lighting. However the lighting in the seperate toilet was much better.
I was again surprized at how large our balcony was. There was no view what so ever, but it was so large you could have a party out there!
We had a charming lady come in 5 times during our one weeks stay, cleaning and changing the towels everytime. She only changed the bed once though, which I guess is normal.
The facilities at The Paraiso del Sol are limited. Around the very basic square shaped swimming pool was no pool side bar, and the snack & drink vending machines were not working either, however, there is a small supermarket nearby.
This resort is in a great location, with just a short walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. It is close enough to stagger home from Veronica's nightlife after a night out, but far enough not to be disturbed by the late nightclub noise.
I do feel I got value for money, however I don't think I will return as there are so many other places to stay at in Costa Adeje that could offer a newer feel albeit a smaller appartment.
