Paris attractions

Walk Paris at night and let 276 illuminated monuments, churches, bridges and canals explain why this is “the city of light”. Climb the Eiffel Tower, visit the Arc De Triomphe, descend to the Catacombs, take a cruise on the Seine or just go for a walk.

Paris History and Culture

The grip Paris had and still maintains over artists, writers and for that matter, lovers, is testimony to the inspirational quality of “the city of light”. Take a walk along the Seine in the late light, look down on the city from the Eiffel Tower or explore a mysterious Quartier by foot and it’s not hard to see why!

This self styled culture capital of the world naturally holds some of the great museums and monuments. In The Louvre Paris has perhaps the world’s greatest art museum, in The Eiffel Tower, the world’s most beautiful folly and in Notre Dame, a triumph of medieval gothic architecture.

Paris is a world renowned gastronomic centre and one is never far from a good meal. French food is varied and can be consumed inexpensively and a few days exploring the city’s bistros and brasseries will doubtless leave you shopping for larger trousers…but relax, in chic Paris, where window shopping is a spectator sport and the opportunities endless, you’ll be glad for the excuse.

Getting around Paris

Navigating Paris is made much easier by an excellent Metro system, buses are unreliable but they do run all night. If you have the time and the energy, the most enjoyable way to see Paris is on foot.

When to visit Paris

Nat King Cole may have famously loved “Paris in the springtime”, but he also loved it “in winter when it drizzles” and “in summer when it sizzles” so he’s not much help. diytravel recommends you avoid visiting in august when much of Paris still leaves town.
