Parkhotel: Park Hotel by Jane Dixon |

We stayed here for one night. Unfortunately, the whole of Stadhouderskade in front of the hotel was closed due to roadworks and the hotel was being refurbished at the time of our visit. Probably because of all this, we were offered an upgrade to a club room at a reduced rate. The room was lovely, clean and extremely comfortable. The room was at the back of the room, with a view (just about) of the Rijksmuseum.
Due to a fire close to the Rijksmuseum and the risk of toxic smoke, we were advised to keep all the windows of our room closed. We decided that as we had to keep the windows closed, we should not leave the hotel so we were unable to sample Amsterdam after dark. However, that did enable us to sample the room service. A very good selection and quite reasonably priced. Service was prompt, within the 25 minute estimated time for delivery, and the food was delicious.
Breakfast was excellent, served between 7.30 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. and we were told at about 10.10 a.m. that the food was being cleared and if we wanted any more we should go then.
Check out was 11.30, but we left earlier than that but were able to leave our luggage in the hotel until our departure from the city at about 5.00 p.m. with no extra charge.
Leidseplein was just a few minutes walk from the hotel, from where we got the tram to and from Central Station. We also caught the tram to the end of Vondelpark and we walked back to the hotel through the park. The park is a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam life, even though it is very busy.
Just across Stadhouderskade from the hotel was the starting point for one of the canal cruises (a very enjoyable and informative 75 minutes for 9 Euros), and just across from there was the Hard Rock Cafe, Holland Casino and one of several Irish bars.
The level of service throughout our short stay was excellent and we would have no hesitation in staying at the Park Hotel in the future.
