| Perissa Review: Perfectly Positioned Perrissa | | Written by Catriona Murray on 20 Sep 2005 about a trip in Aug 2005.
| | First of all to explain my title, Perrissa is away from the main tourist traps in Santorini, however it is a tiny Island, Santorini and therefor Perrissa was an excellent base from which to tour. We stayed at Phevos Villa in the heart of Perrissa, it was a lovely accomadation and very clean. However, towards the end of our holiday it filled up with Greek restuarant owners, and their family`s, and tourists seem to have been put aside so to speak. Taverna Xani on Perrissa main drag was excellent, the staff were really lovely and the food was delicious and not expensive, we were more than happy to visit many times and were not dissapointed at all. The beach itself in Perrissa was very, repeat very hot black sand but wear shoes and kick them off at waters edge, to enjoy the fantastically clear clean waters, snorkelling excellent! As for the rest of Santorini, It was a place I had always wanted to visit and I was not dissapointed. I loved Fira the main attraction so to speak, we did the whole tourist bit and really enjoyed every minute. Sunset in Ia is lovely but can be seen from other parts of the island equally as lovely as from Ia. The archealogical site at Acrotiri is fascinating and the museum up in Fira well worth the 3 euros entry. The highlight for us was a meal up in the village of Pirgos watching the sunset, and being able to see virtually the whole island around us. I would recomend Santorini and Perrissa as one of the best if not the best place I have been in Greece. I hope the reader finds this review helpfull and dont hesitate just go.... |
