Pionero / Santa Ponsa Park: pionero- good hotel/ bar staff unhelpful................... by Yvonne Davidge |
| Posted 24 October 2006 about a visit in August 2006 | Overall rating: 7.7 |
When we arrived we were very pleased with the hotel, but in the room{very clean, but only shower,no bath}. Restaurant fine {food o.k.} and staff tried to be sociable. In a good area of resort, near beach, bars and nightlife,{try Bandolin on the seafront,an excelent cafe/bar to eat at lunchtime, and an extremely good spot for the SUNSETS} Don't try to get a drink in the bar after 11pm{the bar staff will not be pleased} we stayed out and had a better time{Tom's in the Irish Quarter} We went on boat trips to suppounding area's{Peguera,Camp De Mar, St.Telmo and Andratx} also not far from Magaluf and Palma Nova.
Probably will go again to this hotel{but will check a few things first}

Pionero / Santa Ponsa Park: pionero hotel by Alice Currie |

stayed at the pionero for a week and was very disappointed. our tickets did say santa ponsa park but out of the two i think the pionero was probably the better hotel. we were all inclusive and found this a big disadvantage. we found paying customers got served first at the bar and were constantly asked if we were staying at the hotel even though we were wearing the identity bands.
the air conditioning did not work very well and neither did the fridge which we paid extra for. the electrics were faulty and when we told them we could not get anything to work one day, we were told to hit the switches to get them going.
this is also the first hotel we have come across abroad that has carpets.
we found the food and the entertainment ok.
despite the problems our holiay was not spoilt but we will not be returning and would not recommend this hotel.

Pionero / Santa Ponsa Park: Good Hotel, Shame About Staff by Lin Bishop |

Trip was for: Couple Holiday
Visit again? Maybe
| The hotel is well located, a short walk to the beach, shops, restaurants and bars. The cleanliness cannot be faulted but the hotel staff and not particularly friendly and make little effort to be helpful. The entertainment team of 4 work hard and are very professional. I particularly enjoyed the aquaerobics and there is the option of water polo, table tennis competitions, etc. There is also entertainment for children, including a kids club. The adult evening programme is not terribly exciting and lasts only an hour. The in-house 'Grease' performance was extremely enjoyable.
Tables are allocated by the Head Waiter for the duration of the stay and we had to queue for this. Our table was shared with two others but we only actually had four at the table on two occasions. Food variety was very good, it was plentiful and the quality was acceptable. Plates not always efficiently cleared between courses. Pool areas were noisy and too small - we were usually within inches of other guests. There is also a roof terrace which is quieter and accessed via stairs.
The room was very comfortable with ceiling fan and air con. Bathroom well fitted with good shower, tissues and gels supplied. Fridge (11 euros) and safe (12 euros) can be hired weekly. No hairdryer but I always take one. Cleaned daily with daily towel change and one change of bed linen during week. Blankets provided. Good balcony (with clothes airer) but looked out to hotel rooms in adjacent street.
I holidayed with my 16 year old daughter with the objective of a relaxing, chill-out week. Not somewhere she would return to because of the lack of entertainment for young persons in hotel and resort. We did, however, have a lovely time but it could have been made so much better with a friendly and helpful approach from the staff. I would certainly consider returning with my husband if it were not for the staff. We even missed our return coach because the driver went to the reception, whilst we were sitting in front waiting - no attempt was made to check with us. There was a brief apology, they suggested I ran after the coach, then told me I would just have to get a taxi! A disappointing end to the holiday.

Pionero / Santa Ponsa Park: Hotel Acorn Pionero, Santa Ponsa by Jackie Leeds |
| Posted 14 January 2006 about a visit in October 2005 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
October 2004 - The hotel was excellent as the other reviews state. Very clean, comfortable beds. Bath with wonderful power shower. Restaurant very good for hotel food. Not like home cooking but eatable. Good value for money. Plenty of it with a very wide selection. English and continental to choose from at every meal. As much as you could eat. Entertainment most nights was good. Nice and quiet location. Air conditioning was a necessity as temperature 30 degrees daytime. Ramps are a bit steep for wheelchair users so the carer needs to be strong! TV showed only the news and sport channel. Rest was Spanish and German. Nice balcony to sit out on. Swimming pool big enough to have a decent swim in. Would go again.
October 2005 we visited again. The hotel was still excellent and food had vastly improved. Full marks. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet holiday. Only thing that spoilt the holiday was the weather. Had a couple of days when it rained and one day the beach was closed because of the weather. The temperature was only about 18 degrees so would not go again in October. The year before it was 30 degrees the same week so weather cannot be guaranteed.
Not a lot to do in Santa Ponsa if you do not like sun bathing and drinking which we don't. Best to hire a car if possible to see the rest of the Island. Bus service is excellent but takes more time to get to places.

Completes the complex with Hotel Pionero.
Ideal location for couples and families who don't want to be pestered by the night life in some of the Santa Ponsa districts.
Hotel is first class with all the facilities required. Great selection of food and you have your own table for the duration of the holiday.
Situated 300yards from the beach which isn't a problem even for disabled as this is a very flat part of the resort.
I would recommend it to anyone.
Went back this year (2005) this time stayed at the Pionero.Every bit as good as the last time only we used the facilities to completely chill out. Most relaxing holiday yet.

Pionero / Santa Ponsa Park: Great hotel & centrally located by Babaduck |
| Posted 01 December 2003 | |
We stayed in both the Santa Ponsa Park and the Santa Ponsa Playa hotels in July 03 (a booking error!).
The Playa is a 2* hotel directly opposite the 3* Park & they are part of the same chain so you can share facilities.
The rooms in the Park are spacious & air-conditioned... an essential in July when temperatures hit the mid-30's. They were well appointed & were cleaned daily by v. friendly staff.
The food in the restaurant (we only ate breakfast) was good quality - not the best we've ever had but it certainly did the job. It was identical to the food in the SP Park.
The SP Playa pool area was very busy and crowded with barely an inch between the sunbeds so we used the pool in the SP Park which was set in gardens with trees to provide shade and was far quieter.
The location of both was superb - 2 mins from the beach & nightlife. There are two excellent restaurants on the same street, in the opposite direction to the beach which are worth a visit.
