Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino: Great hotel, a fantastic position on the central strip!!!! by Stuart Foster |
| Posted 03 July 2006 about a visit in June 2006 | Overall rating: 8.7 |
Wow, what a place Las Vegas is!!!!
My girlfriend and me took a five night break here at the end of June, neither of us are big USA fans as previous trips to the Sates have failed to impress us. However, this place is completly different!!!
The hotel is in a fantastic position right in the middle of the strip, a short walk can be made to all of the major hotels such as the Paris, Bellagio, MGM Grand, New York New York, Venitian, The Mirage etc.
When we arrived the hotel is going under a transformation from The Aladdin Hotel to the Planet Holywood Hotel. This is due for completion by the end of 2006.
Our room was large and spacious, however we did get upgraded to a suite on arrival (room 2202 if anyone wants to requst it!!) This was a corner room so hence the additional space.
A large marble bathroom with a huge deep bath, his and her sinks, walk in shower and seperate toilet.
The king size bed was exrtremely comfortable with a huge 40 inch TV loctaed at the end of the bed!!!
The World Cup was on during my stay, so to be quite honest I could have stayed in my room for the whole week!!!! However this is now why we go on holiday.
The hotel is so huge, believe me though the Aladdin is classed as a relatively small hotel with 2500 rooms in comaparison the Venitian which has nearly 5000 rooms!!!
You need to check out the new sports bar, very good prices - a local beer such as Bud, Miller or Cools is only $2.00 a bottle, if your like me and prefer Stella or Becks you get get these for $4.00 a bottle.
All the drinks here seemed to be cheaper than we found in the other hotels.
You must go and check out all the other hotels, Vegas is an amazing place. Be sure to take comfortable shoes with you as you will do a hell of alot of walking. This can get to much as when we were there in June the teperature was 42 degrees C, about 120 degrees F. I would certainly advise travelling in the more cooler months.
This hotel is great if you like shopping, my girlfriend had a field day. The Desert Passage had all the designer shops and local discount ones to. I don't really like shopping but the Desert Passage needs to be experienced, if you get too bored there are plenty of sports bars to have a beer in while your partner shops!!!
We had a brilliant time and are planning to go back next year, would I stay at this hotal again? Definately yes, however if a better deal came up for a similar standard hotel in that hotel I would have ne hestation in going for that. All the hotels were great and I think it would be great to experience another one.

Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino: Good hotel by Paula Burns |

Aladdin Hotel was a good place to stay, very central location, right in the middle of the strip. The room we had was good (but not great), we were asked when we checked in if we would like to upgrade to a fountain view room (for an additional $25 per night) which we did - I would not recommend anyone doing this, although the view was good, the window in the room was small and dirty, you had to stand at the window for the view, cause if you sat on the easy chair, you couldn't see out! The room was clean and had a fantastic bathroom with a large bath, double basins and a separate walk-in shower. The toilet was in a separate room with a phone!?
Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable, although the pool area was a little disappointing - just concrete with the pools stuck in - there was also a lack of pool attendants at the towel place.
Facilities in the casino were good, plenty of choice for food, from starbucks to a la carte. The Dessert Passage shopping mall has great choice, both bargains and designer! Didn't win anything in the casino though - just didn't get the lucky vibe there!
Would I stay here again, probably not, although I did enjoy my stay. There is so much choice in Vegas, I tried somewhere else next time.

Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino: Fantastic Hotel by Me! |
| Posted 14 July 2003 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
My husband and I stayed at the Aladdin Hotel in March 2003 for 7 nights.
It is a great hotel in a great location.(centre of the strip)
The rooms are very spacious, there's a large bathroom with a large bath, seperate shower cubicle and seperate toilet.
Every room has a computer, the charge is $9.95 for 24hour internet use.
The free entertainment in the hotel lounge bar every night was great (as it was in all the hotels in Vegas). Good bands with excellent singers. the bands played till about 2am every night. You had to buy your drinks while watching the shows ($5 for a beer or $7 for a vodka and tonic), but while you were gambling the waitresses brought you anything you wanted for free and you only had to give them a tip.
The Desert Passage shopping centre is a must to see, over head it looks like sky and there is an area that looks like it's raining from time to time throughout the day.
You need to take comfortable shoes with you as you will be doing a lot of walking.
The Hotels are massive, and you could spend a whole day in one of them and still not get to see everything they have to offer.
We choose to have most of our evening meals in a different hotel each night and we always went to the hotel buffets, the choice's of food on offer at these buffet's is on a grand scale.
We ate in Bellagio's one night and there was a pianist playing near by.
MGM Grand was another great evening buffet.
We ate braekfast in Paris one morning, Le Village Buffet is arranged with the food stations representing the region's of France, it was a fantastic breakfast in a great setting, every thing being cooked infront of you. and waiters topping up your coffee all the time.
I finished off breakfast with the best cre'pe I have ever tasted filled with fresh blueberries and a dollop of cream on the side. (you could choose from a vast range of fillings).
Another great buffet breakfast was the one we had at Caesar's Palace.
You may have to que up to get into the buffet's but it is well worth it.
Mind you couldn't do the buffet breakfast's every morning as you would end up bursting at the seams.
Some mornings we only had a cafe' latte and a sweet pastry from Starbuck's of which you wouldn't have to travel far to get to as there is one in the Aladdin Hotel.
The Grand Canyon trip was awesome and a must to see.
Everything about Vegas is fantastic, more than I ever anticipated.
We can't wait to get back there, as a week was not long enough for us.
We are returning for 11 nights in October to celebrate my 50th Birthday.
We booked our own flights and rang the hotel direct to book our room.
We have always gone to the Canary Islands in the past for our March holiday and this 7 night trip to Vegas cost us no more than what the Cran Canaria holiday costs us for 7 nights.
