Playa de Las Americas shopping

Advice - unless it's a supermarket - Haggle on the price!
My friends and I were looking to purchase a portable cd player, we were quoted 45 Euro's for a 'Lenco' branded (yes i haven't heard of them either) portable cd player, now on our exchange rate at the time thats about £39 - so unlike my friend I decided to haggle, I got seller down to 33 Euro's then my friend stupidly interupted and said that would be fine, I could have got another 3-8 Euro's off in my opinion going by the prices of other shops.

Generally speaking the price is marked up well above what it should be!

When purchasing any electrical equipment ensure that it is working fully before purchasing, get a receipt and make sure the receipt has the stores name/address on it, also ask the seller if the item is returnable if faulty!

You may have trouble in doing the things I suggest but unless you can do the above - do not buy anything!

I gauruntee you many of the items on sale are not what they appear to be, the quality is always questionable, take more than a first glance at what you are buying aswell as testing it, if the finish of the product is not perfect in the smallest detail - its probably fake !

My father on an unrelated trip to mine bought binoculars - sure enough they were fakes which quickly ceased being fit for purpose! despite looking perfect!

SO to sum up - Be VERY VERY SUSPICIOUS about any product you wish to buy!

CIGGARETTES - DO NOT BUY THEY ARE ALMOST ALL GOOD LOOKING FAKES

Playa de Las Americas nightlife

If your Scottish head to the Calledonia, which is kind of underground, however look for BOBBY'S BAR and its beneath that!, there will be people trying to get you in there anyways when you're close! E3.50 for a vodka, lemonade and lime. E20.00 for a full bottle of Buckfast.
Bar is welcome to all, has a pool table, a punching machine, a permanent DJ, Karreoke, a fag machine. the bathroom for the men could be better and the spirits like everywhere else are not the brands you get at home!

Tramps is good and one of the bigger venues, if not the biggest and only club on the strip. however E5.00 for a vodka, lemonade and lime. so keep your drinking elsewhere and if you intend to drink get the drinks deal from a promotor outside!

AVOID ALL ALLY'S as they are known to be danger hotspots. I have to say I wandered round a few without any trouble or signs of it but the danger is very real and a friend of mine a few years ago got a beating 2 nights in a row in one!

GO to Legends as it does decent entertainment for free, the Billy Connolly tribute was funny as anything, well worth the visit, its around 10-15 minutes walk from Tramps in the Fannebay direction.

AVOID Leonardo's BTW Reps of Club 18-30 will take their nieve punters to there to bore them to the point where they buy the shockingly priced drinks! The place is overpriced!

Looky-looky's are everywhere and will follow you, try and shake your hand, try to speak with you, offer you something for free then say it has a price - I recommend you say NO, NO , NO to everything do not feel ashammed at doing this, because there are so many you will reach that stage soone enough!

DRINK'S ARE EXPENSIVE , EVEN SOFTDRINKS AND WATER!
during the day they are cheaper but still nothing to sing and dance about!

Prostitutes, Looky-looky's and bar promoters are everywhere wanting your money, every 25 yards in and around the strip you'll be approached by 2 or 3.

Playa de Las Americas restaurants

Mario's in the posh end is a brilliant restaurant, Prices FAIR, FOOD GOOD! btw I cannot remember the address and there may well be others of the same name! The one I speak of is very busy and is around 200yards from Scotch Corner.

Aberdeen Steak House - in name only, the Place is run by dodgy arabs and the service is pathetic. The food was good but I have heard different stories and honestly the guy put down warm rolls and butter without us asking, we thought they were complementary - he charged us 3 Euro's for 3 rolls we wouldn't have paid for. a seat also broke in 3 when a girl was eating her meal, it was 5 minutes later a member of staff approached, this place is tiny - there is no excuse and she could have been seriously hurt! There are many "Aberdeen" Steak Houses, but the one I speak of is below Bal-something Pizzeria and is behing Cayletta Appartments/Las Piramedas.

Erm The Chinese buffets are generally excellant value for money and the food is no worse than a good china buffet kind in Britain.

There is no Indian Buffets so dont look for one!

There is a Pizza shop next to tramps which my friends and I liked for conveience.

The Giddy Goose does a good Baked Potato with whatever your topping, they also do a good cheeseburger with egg and bacon.

DO NOT GO TO AMERICAN DREAMS- They will struggle to take your order correctlyand will not like you correcting them when you dont get what you ordered, they savotaged my food and was the most expensive place we at

When to visit Playa de Las Americas

If you have children you want your head examined if you take them here in June-August and out 8pm onwards.

If you have a little girl she will end up getting her hair braided and it takes hours to get it out for your information!

The bars are full of young people and young teenagers here could end up drunk, robbed, attacked, sexually assaulted, or destressed by street sellers.

IF YOUR YOUNG VERY LATE JULY AND EARLY/MID AUGUST IS WHEN TO BE THERE IF YOU WANT IT PEAK!
