| Plymouth Review: | | Written by Paula on 21 Mar 2005 about a trip in May 2002.
| I have lived in Plymouth for 23 out of my 36 years and I love going back there to see friends and family. South Devon is picturesque, relaxing and has so much to offer. The town centre offers plenty of shops and is usually overflowing with flower and landscape displays. The Hoe is worth the visit with it's view over Plymouth Sound, where you are sure to catch sight of the warships and ferries. Smeaton's Tower (the lighthouse)looks gorgeous with its red and white stripe paintwork. The Barbican is part of the harbour with loads of art shops and little curio and oddity shops, with some lovely cafes and pubs that offer from a tempting menu. One thing is a must, you HAVE to visit Captain Jaspers, even if it's for a mug of tea.
I left Plymouth to work in London for a while, which was exciting, and now I have settled in Staffordshire. I miss Plymouth a lot, for its fresh, sea air and the beautiful coastal line and gorgeous beaches. I'm lucky to be able to have a reason to go so often, as I feel so at home. The people are friendly, they are the type to talk to you while you are waiting for a bus or in a shop queue. The accent is lovely and lilting (sometimes!). Although cream teas are deemed best in Cornwall, you can be lucky enough to get a good one in Plymouth. |
