 Praia Sol: How not to cater for English Guests! by Sali Gray |

The Praia Sol was perfectly placed for spending time in Quarteira or Vilamoura, which were both a short stroll away. The Hotel and Room appeared to be clean, but closer inspection showed that it was only 'surface level' clean and actually some of the surfaces had quite a lot of dust on them. The en-suite was spacious (we had a Superior Room) with a bath and a hand-held shower. The TV had limited satellite channels. I think I must have forgotten to request a 'double' bed, because we had 2 singles pushed together.
The Staff were friendly, but completely unable to deal with the 38 drunken Irish men who were staying at the same time as us! This meant that we didn't get much sleep whilst we were there. Other guests received verbal sexual abuse, including 2 female pensioners! It was an alleged 'Golfing Tour'. If you're thinking if staying here, ask to be informed as to whether any single sex groups are staying!!
The food was awful! I didn't appreciate scrambled egg, sausage, beans and white sliced bread for breakfast, although others might enjoy it! I could have had processed cheese and bland processed ham, with some bread, but in all honesty I preferred to go to Vilamoura for some tasty croissant! The set menu was very limited. The chicken salad had a few 'shavings' of chicken in it. The lasagne (although edible) had very little meat in it. I think they were keeping their food costs to an absolute minimum. It was a shame, because the local food was delicious! Their 'Snack Menu' comprised Hot Dogs, Burgers and Pizzas.... Perhaps they were trying hard to cater for 'English tastes'.
We didn't have a chance to use the small pool, due to the drunken Irish golfers. Those who did try to sit around it were abused!
It seems this hotel caters best for groups - but I would not encourage anyone travelling alone, or any couples to use it without checking who else is going to be staying there. I honestly feel that we completely wasted our money and what was supposed to be a 'treat' for two exhausted, hard working people resulted in us being more tired on our return to the UK, than when we departed!!
On the plus side, I came across an amazing bottle of vintage red wine in Quateira and took it back to the hotel. They were kind enough to open the bottle for me and gave us two lovely wine glasses, so that we could enjoy the wine in our room.
I should add that after arriving on Sunday, we went out on Monday and when we returned, we found our Hotel Room door OPEN! I don't mean unlocked - I mean literally wide open!! There was no-one in the room and nothing appeared to have been taken, which was lucky really, because we had left our possports and some sterling in the room!

The only thing i can critisze this hotel is for the way the guest are located in there rooms. Luckily my stay was short because of 20 drunken male irish guests that surrounded me and my wifes room. They started drinking heavily at 8am with breakfast and carried on until 5am thefollowing morning when they would wake us when the sang crashed and fighted there way back in to the rooms. The second morning we left our room for breakfast and there was blood trailed all over the floor from room to room.
Why why do they not put these groups of people together away from the normal guests.

We [a group of 12 golfers] stayed here in May on a B&B basis.
I simply cannot fault the service we received. I was fortunate enough to get one of the 10 superior rooms which came with a "jacuzzi" bath.
Nothing seemed to be to much trouble for the management team, laying on an early breakfast when needed and rustling up a reasonable meal when we wanted to watch the Champions League final.
To take the quickest route down to the marina, you have to leave by the rear entrance [guarded by a security camera] and walk down an open alleyway. This never caused us a problem but it would be worth singles or couples considering a 3 euro cab ride back late at night.
As a value for money option, from my experience, I don't think this can be beaten.

I have won a free Keycamp holiday :-) The best flights come back on 30/9 but the camp closes on 28/9. I like the sound of Prais Sol can't seem to find out how close it is to the Quarteira Keycamp site. Please can anyone help?
