We have been to Floriana Park a few times. We thought it was a great resort for families with young cjildren.
The hotel runs several kids clubs for different age groups. In particular the ones for the slightly older children are great - they actually do stuff with them, games in the pool, volleyball, 5 a side etc.
The downside is that because Thompson have their own kids club, the hotel one is only used by the non-brits so unless your kids talk German or Dutch they will have to get by with sign language (plus of course the universal language of game-boy and yu-ghi-o!)
The ents team in particular were amazing (do they ever stop?) but generally all the staff are helpful and friendly. Yes there are a lot of Germans (though also quite a few Dutch families) and yes, they and the Brits (come on guys 'fess up, we do it too) tend to get up at 8.00am to get their towels in place.
Restaurant food is self service and there is a lot of choice, we liked it. You can walk or get a cab to Son Severa and from there get a train to Palma and various other places including Petra. Trains are very modern but not frequent so check the times
Petra for market day was great but very busy - a lot of tourist tat but some real local produce too.
If you can get to Palma (by bus or train) then you can get the mountain railway to the North of the Island and then the local bus back to Palma again - great views but sit on the left hand side of the bus if you dont like heights.
