Pueblo Indalo: Peublo Indalo July 2003 by brianmccalden |

Peublo Indalo, Mojacor
FALCON
Brian and Gladys McCalden, Adam & Kirsty McCalden
47, 50, 18, 15
Northern Ireland
July 2003
Two weeks in the sun! It was non-stop wall-to-wall sunshine with temperatures that NEVER drop below 27C and frequently hit the low 40Cs.
Thankfully, the roomy (one-bedroom) apartment was air conditioned, (although not 24 hours) and as we really spent most of our time out and about or on the beach the few hours when it was switched off (centrally) was no problem.
Our room overlooked the main Plaza at the front and the main pool (and a stunning view of the mountains) at the back, so no complaints there.
The evening entertainment was magnificent, and is only the second best we have encountered.
All praise to the (very) hard working team of entertainers and especially the multi-talented and multi-lingual Irish girl who was obviously the leader, choreographer, director and all round great entertainer.
How she got the energy to work each night with first (8.30pm) the kids and their own exciting ‘It’s a Knock-out’ style games, and then to work on (from 10pm until midnight) on the hugely enjoyable adult shows, and then get up next day to lead the morning water aerobics and then rehearse the next evenings show is a mystery-especially in that heat!
Anyway, we had a ringside seat for the various shows such as roller-skating ‘Starlight Express’ and an excellent (don’t try this at home!) abseiling adventure down the walls of the complex as part of a ‘version’ of the ‘Rocky Horror Show’.
Although far from being of West End standard, full marks for effort and enthusiasm!
Meanwhile, don’t miss the visiting Brazilian dance routine—breathtaking!
Of course, after eating out and/or enjoying the complex’s own show things only get going at midnight, and while a bit quieter than other Costa’s, there was a choice of bars and discos to entertain most people, although there was, on our visit, a big problem with sectarianism.
Unfortunately, the intimidating amount of Celtic Football shirts, (with some wearers even carrying Hurley sticks!) and a rampant nationalism (unusually for holidaymakers from the Irish Republic) there was inevitably TROUBLE!
The on site disco, which was all teenagers and normally a great hang-out for surly teens to meet was ‘taken over’ by the Irish nationalists who proceeding, (on at least one nasty night) to hang tricolours from the ceiling, sing IRA songs and even stamp on a Union Jack.
Of course, the few English people there objected and some minor, (though scary) fighting followed-with some damage even done to the premises.
The same ‘IRA on tour’ crowd had earlier been responsible for tearing down fencing and throwing it onto the road, potentially giving the police the chance they seemed to be itching for to get ‘involved’
Threatening, intimidating behaviour, and yet (in many cases with adults I spoke to) excused as ‘youthful exuberance by the parents.
One wonders how they would have reacted had they been a dominant number of England fans, or Northern Ireland-based Rangers ‘fans’ carrying on the same way?
However, for the many hundreds of visitors, (especially those with small children already tucked up in bed) this would have gone unnoticed, so only those of us with teenagers were left to worry.
All in all, this is NOT the kind of thing anyone wants on holiday, although there’s little, (other than advise of such problems) that the tour operator, (JWT, part of Falcon) can actually do.
Certainly, we won’t be back as a direct result, and that’s the first time that has ever happened!
The management reacted by refusing entry next night to all in football shirts, but with no one on the door to police it, that couldn’t have lasted long!
Another day
But on to daytime activities, and aside from the usual organised pool-based volleyball, shooting etc. most people seemed to prefer lazing around the complex’s extensive gardens around the pool.
My wife and I don’t go for the crowds and after a great deal of searching around the miles of local beach, we settled on the stretch of beach at the complex, (just across the road) as the most comfortable setting for relaxation and enjoyment.
The folks at the Somoa Surf who run the beach bar, banana boat trip and other water sports are a wonderful Dutch couple, who again are multi-lingual.
Their cold beers are a real treat as is their growing menagerie of pets, (the latest is a tiny kitten).
The Peublo Mojacor, (the lovely village after which the resort is named) is just up a road, (a 75 cent bus ride) and shouldn’t be missed, and there are some excellent beaches around the coast, (good advice from the on site reps).
Don’t miss genuine Tappas at the little bar in a village a few miles along the coast, (on the main road over the mountain) and when in that direction, check out a beautiful crescent beach, fringed by authentic restaurants at Aqua something….a little village popular with the Spanish.
There’s much more to tell..…but, the above gives a flavour.
It’s a multi-cultural area, (although the ‘paddies on tour’ are far from cultural) with holidaymakers from Spain, France, the UK, all of whom are catered for.
But closer to the real Spain…? Yes, if you get out of the resort and along the coast or into the mountains, (car hire can be had for about £100 per week), but not really in Mojacor Playa.
It is different, there are only 10 taxis in the resort, and there is only one, (very costly) scooter hire outlet, but, it all depends on what you want.
Peublo Indalo is a great complex, its well run and clean, and I would recommend it, but please….don’t pack your football shirts…….anyone!!!
Oh, and don’t let the little ones onto the bouncy castle outside the complex. A little girl of 12 suffered a fractured skull when we were there when it (literally) blew away!
You have been warned!

Pueblo Indalo: Would go back again by Mari Dunne |
| Posted 03 May 2003 | Overall rating: 7.0 |
We stayed in the pueblo Indalo apts last 2 weeks in August. The apartments were very small for 4 people, clean enough with just one or two cockroaches., and had air conditioning, which you really need at that time of year.We had a tiny patio where only one person was able to sit in the sun at a time. The entertainment at night was very good ,especially for children. we hired a car and went far afield, the scenery can be very bland as it is a desert. The old village of Mojacar up the hill is a must. I thought it was beautiful, full of narrow alleyways and Bouganville flowers everywhere, with lots of shops and quiet bars dotted here and there. The view was fantastic. We also went to Garrucha just beside Mojacar, another classy place. It was beautiful at night time with lots of restaurants with tables placed along the promenade with a great atmosphere and very romantic looking. The food was great too and excellent value for money. We had a lovely holiday here and I can't wait to go back again.
