Puerto Tahiche: great location but take your own bleach by Diane Clark 1 |
| Posted 19 April 2006 about a visit in April 2006 | Overall rating: 5.3 |
The apartments are in a great location right beside the beach however the accomodation itself is very very very basic and what you read in the holiday brochures is highly exagerated. In fairness for what we paid for the holiday for 2 adults and a teenager it was buttons compared to what we normally pay for 3 star accomodation in the canaries. Yes there is a gym but no way would you pay for it, a couple of tatty free weights and an excercise bike does not constitute a gym, and you have to pay 6 euros for the privaledge. The entertainment leaves a lot to be desired unless you like quizes, and the main attraction does not start till around 11pm. The main glass door in the reception blew out and completely shattered and after 4 days has still not been replaced.
The cleaners are very keen to make your bed but not very keen to clean the apt, never mind just try and get an apt high up as the cockroaches and ants love the ground floor. Dont buy the tv unless the weather is really bad as you get the same 4 films played all day every day for 2 weeks even if you complain about it. Mind you for 3 star accomodation we have to say the beds were extreamly comfortable and you could have slept peacefully all night if it wasnt for the fact the outside corridor style ment you were woken by every waif and stray that came in after 1am.
Dont let this put you off as the location is great great great, just take a big bottle of bleach and buy a sweeping brush.

Puerto Tahiche: A great holiday by Nick Boyle |
| Posted 30 August 2005 about a visit in August 2004 | Overall rating: 9.3 |
OK. There were a few teenagers enjoying themselves around midnight, and when we went for a swim at midnight and were asked to get out of pool, the people running understandably could not differentiate between us and them, we swam without any noise.
It was a base to discover this wonderful and weird island, for the price it was good, the people reserving the sunbeds were mainly english, did not worry us, but did have a chuckle as everyone thinks its the Germans who do this.
A great restaurant if you go down to the bay and turn left, about 5 mins walk, see the desalination plant near the capital, but superb service and food
I have been to many countries in Europe, to the US, safari in Africa and to australia, and have not found such a friendly place (well croatia matched this year)

Puerto Tahiche: Great Location & Accomodation by PashOnline |
| Posted 21 July 2005 about a visit in June 2005 | Overall rating: 8.8 |
We have just returned from here and had a great time the rooms were clean and the hotel is very children friendly with kids clubs. "Loads of kids everywhere"
Its close to the beach and hext to a whole host of great resturants and bars "we loved the scotts and wry scottish bar"
Would recomend the catamaran trip its a great day out.
We saw 1 cockroach and a few bugs we were on the 1st floor. Only downside to the rooms in Block A,B,C, is that they do not get any sun during the day or evening which the others across the way had.
The high winds on the beach whipped the sand up a bit this was the only bad point i can think off.
Go and have fun..

Puerto Tahiche: Stop Moaning. by Andrew Shaw |
| Posted 06 July 2004 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
Isn't it great that people go on holiday just to find something to moan about!
Just back from these apartments (June 2004 - 3rd time there) - they are great. Great location, great pools, good apartments, great children's entertainment.
Spoke to people who nearly cancelled because people were so down on these apartment. They certainly felt that they would have missed out on a superb holiday.
And as for people who go on about the cockroaches (we got two in 14 days), what do you expect! It's like coming to Scotland and not getting midges!!!!!! And anyway - the reception gives cockroach spray away free if it's not already in your apartment.
Go - you will enjoy.

Puerto Tahiche: Room 2226 Blue W/E 10 April 2003 by Largeloins |
| Posted 14 April 2003 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
I agree with all the comment from the 3 previous reviews regarding the Costa Teguise but my experiences of the hotel were less than good.
We stayed self catering in apartment 2226 and this is what we found.
Living area and bedroom
Paint flaking from walls both inside and out of apartment with plaster off walls around patio door frame
One side of twin plug socket smashed and contacts exposed. This was hidden behind sofa bed. I reported this son the second day after arrival and it was not attended to or fixed before we left 6 days later. Lucky it was behind sofa bed so my 3 year old daughter could not get to it.
Bedroom window at waist height and easily accessible from landing, plus centre opening - so very easy to climb through. Window also directly overlooked by staircase to upper floor therefore everyone coming down stairs looked straight into bedroom, which meant curtains had to be drawn for privacy.
No fan in bedroom therefore window had to be left open to get any ventilation.
Generally very noisy especially the sound of doors banging and conversations of occupants of rooms above and below.
Apartment above and adjacent to Kareoke bar therefore noise until about midnight.
Coin operated TV - 1 Euro per hour.
Pump/motor somewhere in the block droned for 10 seconds every minute of every day which was hardly noticeable during the day but was very intrusive at night I am glad I had earplugs other wise I would have got no sleep.
Bathroom
Urine stains on bathroom floor vinyl
Torn vinyl on bathroom floor
Cracked tiles in bathroom with filthy grouting.
Kitchenette
Absolutely no consumables for self catering such as washing up cloth, washing up liquid, tea towel or even salt or pepper. Why these thing can't be left in the apartment I don't know as virtually every new occupant has to buy them each week and doesn't use them up. The only thing left under the sink was a tin of roach killer which you need as they are big - if they can't climb they can fly because we were on the first floor.
Deposit of 25 Euros each for kettle and toaster
No microwave.
Hob of electric cooker so badly worn could not see to heat settings of the plates or weather they were on or off.
Hotel Generally
On the face of it looks very nice and the public areas kept very well with a few exceptions.
Mini disco on first floor above reception. It was dangerously close in fact right beside spiral staircase leading to ground floor.
Paint/coating missing in patches from bottom of swimming pool with loose boards on bridges.
Hotel kids club free took ages from 2 to 12 years but only operated between 11.00 hrs and 12.30 hrs and 13.30 hrs to 15.30 hours.
Airtours
Airtours reps absolutely useless, we asked them three different questions about the locality and if there was a Canarian newspaper written in English and they got each and every question completely wrong. After that we didn't both asking them anything else.
Airtours "Welcome" Meeting was (after starting 35 minutes late) 45 minutes of them tying to sell us Airtours "preferred" excursions and nights out. We received no information about the hotel facilities and resort other than getting a map of the Doctors clinics.
Airtours kids club 5 Euros per day from 11.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs (I think) ages 3 to 12 although brochure said 2 to 12.

Puerto Tahiche: Family Holiday by Glyn Miles |
| Posted 28 May 2002 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
Excellent location, plenty of activities for children , evening activities for adults not up to much on the complex but plenty in the resort.
Don't get conned by the reps to go on an excursion to Timanfaya or the caves or even Teguise market if there is a group of you or you are a family hire a car and do the lot off your own back it will cost you about 75% less.
Apart from that an ideal family holiday destination....enjoy.
P.S some excellent restaurants around the resort.
P.P.S the car hire company in the reception area is very reasonable cheaper than the one the reps try to plug
